Hi PCTS, board regular, Ninjia here.
Just another uick uestion. After upgrading from WinVista to XP I tried to connect to the internet only to realise that my wireless card was not only not working, but also the computer didn't seem to realise that I even had a wireless card.
I have since downloaded the wireless drivers from the DELL site however these seem to do nothing except add the DELL Wireless Network Utility which appears to do nothing. I was wondering if you guys knew how to add the wireless connection option under network settings in control panel or where to get the correct wireless drivers.
Just to verify I am using a DELL Inspiron 1720 with the stock-standard network card on XP 32-bit.
Thanks for your help again <3

shameless self-bamp please?
I like how you say upgrading from Vista to XP.
I have wireless driver problems all the time, the best thing to do is try and find the CD for it (if you have one), go to the store and complain, or just search the internet continuously until you find them. My wireless driver CD broke and it took me about 3 days to find them.
eep alright thanks for that :)
Any idea how i might be able to identify the brand and product number? At the moment it's not even showing up in device manager :S

these two parts make this sentence make no sense. especially since you cant upgrade to an older OS
try looking up the name of your wireless card and find drivers. not specifically from a dell site

I said upgrading because I hate vista. I love 7 but it's not skinnable at allllll so I downgraded from 7->vista to try and get some more themes. Wasn't satisfied with vista so I upgraded (because I hate it) from vista to XP (because I prefer XP even though it is older).
Also, I solved the problem. For some reason when you type in your service tag it gives you a different list of drivers than if you were to just enter the model i.e. Inspiron 1720 as opposed to the service tag which contains information about the individual computer.
