I need to do a stop motion video about fucking over Julius Caesar for my English class. The only problem is I have never done a stop motion video before.
What are some tips to get me through this project as painlessly as possible? What is the best program? My group is planning on using legos, because they are pretty simple to use.

I use to be really in to that kind of stuff
Be sure to use natural lighting or white light if you have access to it, if your camera supports onion skinning (you can see an outline of your previous photo, while you take a new photo), use it. I'd suggest using iStopMotion if you have access to a mac, or there's plenty of apps on the app store / play store for stopmotion if you want to use your phone camera.
Depending on your framerate (i'd suggest 15 frames per second for starting off), it will take some time to do, as you will be taking 15 photographs for 1 second of movement.
For smooth movement, be sure to keep the camera still, and don't make the characters move too fast between each frame.
Don't bring characters and movements to a complete halt. Gradually slow them down.
So if one guy is moving, frames 1-5 you should push him a few inches each frame, after that push him an inch or so less and less for each frame. It'll look a bit more natural if you do this.
If you've never done stop motion before, I suggest 10 frames per second. It's a bit choppy but it gets the job done and doesn't look like ass.
Also secure that camera down, try to make it so the button you press for each frame isn't attached to the camera so you don't move the camera after each take.
This is some software I used forever ago to make stop motion stuff when I was like 12:

It's free and pretty easy to use. Though I recommend adding sound and music in an external video editor, from what I remember, Monkey Jam had a weird ass way to get sounds to work.
Also try to light your set correctly, it can make a big difference in the quality, especially if you have a bright white light.
