So the other day, I had to move my computer into another room. So I unplugged everything, moved it over piece by piece and soon had it up and running again. Then a little bit later whilst mucking around with DOSBox and some of the games on the current PC Powerplay cover disc, my computer froze up on me. So I restarted and got nothing on the screen and no power from the computer's USB ports. I opened it up to see if anything was loose and after removing a few components to get a better look found nothing. So I put everything back in and now when I tried to boot it I got a continuous beep from the graphics card but the USB ports worked. I found out the power connection to the GPU ws loose and fixed that up and now I'm back to getting no power from USB and no display.
Specs are:
CPU: [Intel] Core i5 750
GPU: [ATi] HD 5850
Sound Card: Onboard Dolby HD Digital
RAM: 4GB Corsair (DDR3)
Monitor: Some Chimei I got off my Cousin [LCD]
Motherboard: Gigabyte P55A-UD3R
Power Supply: Corsair HX650W
Case: NZXT Lexa Blackline
Hard Disk Drive(s): Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB
tl;dr: my computer will not dsplay anything or provide power to the USB ports.
Does the motherboard beep?
-snip-
sounds like the motherboard went
That's quite damn weird. I had a similar thing once, started with the graphics card, then looked like it was the motherboard, and actually, in the end it turned out to be that the power supply was failing, which lead to random error codes on the MB LED and random beeps et cetera, which had made me think other things had gone wrong.
Look up what the motherboard beep means.
Did you plug the power back in to your graphics card? That's one I miss embarrassingly frequently.
a continus beeb can mean a dead CPU, but if it stopped with the video card then that may not be the problem. If it does not beep then it could well be the motherboard.
If there are any lights that come on, on your motherboard, see if they are on, if they aren't then it sounds like the power went. If there are no lights or anything like that, see if you can take out your PSU and take it in to the local computer store and get it tested, testing is free most likely (at my local guy it is, and im saying most likely because there could be that ONE guy out there, im almost certain it's free). If it's not the power, and it still isn't booting up, then it might be the CPU. Otherwise it's the mobo.
I personally would think that after moving the comp around and switching switches and DC plugs, sounds like a power issue.
I should point out the beep was coming from the graphics card itself and, upon looking up the cause of that, it turned out the power cable was loose. Also I was talking to a friend who said maybe a 640W power supply isn't enough for my system. He said he had this problem when he got a new graphics card for his system and the system slowly stopped working over a period of about 6 months.
Thinking back on it I've had similar issues with my computer freezing up and beeping at me which was happening with increasing frequency up until it stopped working.
So could it be the PSU?
What brand is your PSU?
Corsair, it says in the OP.
