Tougher regulation on ammunition, after all, a printed gun suddenly isn't worth that much if there's no ammunition.
And good luck enacting some sort of DRM system on 3D printers, considering it's possible to build a (somewhat shitty) 3D printer yourself.
That won't work. You see, the next step is ammo printing.
That won't work. You see, the next step is ammo printing.
They already have that, it's called an ammunition press and elbow grease. They'll have to regulate the powder for firearms, and from there you'll be fighting people who will be making explosives intended for firearms, which is something the local PD's can't exactly cope with.
A 3D-printer gun?? So its a gun that fires 3D-printers?
So clearly the next step is to make firearms obsolete with the ready availability of forcefields or power armor.
"These guns could fall into the hands of people who should not have guns - criminals, people who are seriously mentally ill, people who are convicted of domestic violence, even children."
Because criminals and children can't currently get guns, right? Nope never a problem with guns, but now that they can spend $600 on a printer to print them who knows what will happen!

Yeah just let me print some gunpowder
This woman sounds so awkward and unprofessional.
Hasn't this been done in about 12 different ways before now? Why is this being called the first?
hey guys a fringe group made a shitty plastic gun that breaks after three shots BAN EVERYTHING
Hasn't this been done in about 12 different ways before now? Why is this being called the first?
I think it's the first fully printed firearm, previous attempts by this guy have been lower receivers for AR-15s which is legally the "gun" part
Meh. You can make a shotgun with two metal pipes that fit into each other.
Awesome. I wonder how long until they formulate more complex and powerful models.
Meh. You can make a shotgun with two metal pipes that fit into each other.
i totally didn't make a sten and hide it in the desert so i can't say i agree with you there, it's super duper hard to make firearms

Slambangs are only useful up close.
Although shotguns are normally smoothbore, so making a ghetto revolver that uses .410 slugs or buckshots would be the easiest ghetto weapon to get ammo for in all of the first world.

Hey guys we can print 3d models now
LETS MAKE GUNZ
i cringed alot during that video
And if he decides to sell these guns, there is nothing the law can do to stop him since he is an accredited, licensed, Federal Firearms Dealer
Making some makeshift ammo wouldn't be that much of a problem either, to be honest.
I thought somebody did this a while ago, sadly it just broke after one or two shots.
The guy is a fucking nutcase, I hope his project gets shut down by someone.
This reminds me of those plastic, disposable guns in Borderlands 2. Instead of reloading, you chuck the gun at your enemies.

how dare people advance technology and the availability of personal freedoms

Same guy. And that design they've now fixed so it can fire over 100 rounds safely.
A good thing ammo can't be printed. I don't know about the US but in most Scandinavian countries a gun is ridiculously hard to get a hold of, at least at the moment.

Ammo can be made quite easily, my dad has some sort of ammo making rig thing in the basement, although he hasn't used it for a few years.

At least it's somewhat harder than just pressing "print".
The media is talking about this like it's a reason to ban 3d printers or heavily regulate them.
"Oh no, it's a way around metal detectors!"
Yes, to bring a very bad plastic gun onto a plane. Something people can already make. And it won't have bullets unless you make those deadly out of non metal too.

Ammo manufacture in comparison to firearms manufacture is like comparing legos to erector sets where you've got to weld and pour the steel for the set itself. You have to assemble and mill a firearm, for a round, all you have to do is use what amounts to three mass-produced bits and use a press to force 'em together after measuring gunpowder.
