Does every new game have to be a card game? I miss the days when people used to make original game concepts, hell i even miss the days when everyone was just trying to make call of duty with different colours, as at least we still got some experimentation in other genres at that time. The entire AAA industry seems to be even further condensing around fewer and fewer game concepts as time goes on We now only seem to exist in 4 game concepts: Generic FPS shooter with gimmick, open world rpg with towers to reveal the map, card game #2385, or MOBA. I don't think I've played a big budget game in years, everything I consume is indie because the AAA industry seems to have killed itself. On the plus side its literally the best time ever to be an indie dev due to the insufferable lack of creativity That said this will still print money for valve because how can it not? Its disappointing that valve is doing this as they've originally had some originality, but what can you do

I'd be surprised if this game were to really make any use of Source2.
Card games are the new cashgrabs that mobas were a few years ago. Too bad Hearthstone single-handedly owns the online card game market and has for a long time now.
Is this one of those VR projects they're supposedly working on I swear to god "Experience a true table top experience with Artifact, only on HTC Vive"
Reminder this will be the first Source 2 game built from the ground up. a card game
Reminder this will be the first Source 2 game built from the ground up. a card game
valve wants innovation, after all
The good thing about this is that Valve might provide some good competition for Hearthstone, which should in theory benefit hearthstone players quite nicely
Reminder this will be the first Source 2 game built from the ground up. a card game
You could probably make a decent card game on the original GldSrc engine. What a waste.

If Valve was crazy enough to add actual combat to the game a la Unholy War or some versions of Battle Chess, it'd be revolutionary.
Reminder this will be the first Source 2 game built from the ground up. a card game
I bet they made it in unity.

That and players are most likely going to be able to trade/sell their cards to friends/market may bring in more people.

Wow, really? That's it? Even an FPS with barely any innovation thrown in would've been more exciting for me. I guess this genre is a good platform for anything economy or microtransaction related, but I'd be lying if I said how seeing every MP game try to add some kind of alternative avenue for payments is not getting awfully tiring. I just want to buy a game once and not worry about missing out on new content already. Fuck.
Why the hell do we need another card game? Tabletop Simulator, Gwent, Hearthstone, Elder Scrolls Legend are pretty much enough. At this moment i wish Valve could just make a game from Third Person Perspective. Hell, why not make a horror game which would serve as what you can do with Steam Audio to it's full potential and make the player actually feel unsafe and scared from visual, gameplay and audio perspective without relying on something cheap and cliche (or at least keep it minimum as possible).
no one cares about card games just because you shoehorn in some popular ip. it worked for hearthstone because it got in first and was fun to play.
It's not something I asked for but at the same time I'm pretty interested in it. The base concept sounds pretty unique from other card games and if it actually has Trading (something other games in the market are too scared to do) it would have a significantly better barrier for entry for new players, something that Hearthstone is severely failing in these days
When I heard about this announcement, I fucking shat myself. Looks like I left my hopes too high again. Valve is just a burned out match at this point. So much for Ricochet 2 :vs:
Remember when valve made good games. I can't.
