Play the first Alan Wake before this one. Very important. Not for the story- but it's just a better experience than this one overall.

I did not expect this.

Ah god damn, I played all of Alan Wake including the DLCs on the 360. Full price for me then, £10 is a pretty good deal. Pre-ordered.
I'm going to play through the first Alan Wake again now.
and i am so short of money right now :(
Alan wake was really good.
Except it had one major terrible flaw.
Most of the time when enemy's appeared, the game slowed time down, zoomed out from you, and just showed you exactly where the enemy's were coming from.
Broke immersion every time, other than that, it was an amazing game.
Oh and his agent, even though crazy demon shadow people and birds were trying to kill him, never seemed to take any of it seriously and just made lame jokes and put Christmas lights on himself.

Remedy is a serious game developer, but they can poke a lot of fun at themselves. If you think about it, Alan Wake is really just a dark comedy. Max Payne even poked fun at itself.
Having played AW's AM on the Xbox, I can safely say that it's at least as good as the first game. It's very different, but Remedy have improved it. Alan Wake was really trying to switch between a horror game and action and it created an odd pace, but American Nightmare is full-on action and they do it perfectly. The combat is better, and the story is great. The story does fine on its own, but people who have finished the first game have extra context on what is actually happening in the game.

I thought the gunplay was extremely average. It didn't matter where you shot the enemies. Headshots did as much damage as shooting someone in the leg, or anywhere else.
And the platforming segments were terrible due to jumping being extremely stiff and clunky.
And it pissed me off at how many times you would get all the powerful stuff in the game, then a cutscene happens, and you lose everything. It happened at least like 5 times in the game.

Ya, I eventually figured it out more towards the end that it was a dark comedy.
But the game felt really awkward the whole way through, especially as you got closer to the end.
It was like they didnt know if they wanted to keep it serious , or be a dark comedy, or if it wanted it to be action or a horror.
Like it was trying to be horror but then started acting kind of goofy.
But the combat was really fun and dodging was so satisfying so I am defiantly getting american nightmare.
The close up thing is still terrible.
Instant buy, I fucking love Alan Wake and Remedy.
