• Need a new keyboard, not sure what to get

So today I've decided to finally stop using the piece of crap ergonomic keyboard I was gifted, now I need a new one, It has to be backlit, and have high keys [little tiny chicklet ones annoy the shit out of me] Can be either wireless or wired, I don't really care And and dumb as this sounds it has to 'look good' for normal people. As much as i'd love to have a model M I'd hate the constant HURR WHY IS YOUR KEYBOARD SO OLD? Also, I have this werid OCD type thing where everything in my setup has to match...so like blue, black, white
I have a Eclipse II and love it. its backlit and looks good(to me at least) but its black and silver.

I like my Logitech G110 and I'm pretty picky about my keyboards and mice too, it has lighted keys you can change the color on and such, macro keys on the left side, highly recommended.
G110, Eclipse II or III would be great keyboards.
The only good keyboard with backlit keys is the Razer Blackwidow, and that's the only good razer product, besides a few of the mouses.
Razer Blackwidow. If you didn't want the backlighting I recommend the Dell AT101W.
I want a cool backlit keyboard and a nice mouse.... I just have the ones that came with my computer. Freaking prebuilts.... :saddowns:
The only good keyboard with backlit keys is the Razer Blackwidor, and that's the only good razer product, besides a few of the mouses.
ah, there you are, just as i predicted. [editline]27th March 2011[/editline] the lycosa mirror just has such a nice feel on the keys. its not rubbery, its not plasticy... its like.. hard gel or something... its just great eh :P your fingers can slide across them easily, theres the perfect amount of traction and the perfect amount of grip.
If you don't like the look of the model M, you could pickup a Blackwidow or the Das keyboard.
The Unicomp Customiser is nice
Go for a mechanical keyboard I have a list in my thread: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1054092-Mechanical-Keyboard-Megathread?highlight= Along with all the info about Mechanical Keyboards

They are bad products, they make the only backlit keyboard that's mechanical, and only mechanical keyboards are good keyboards - including scissor switch and semi-mechanical keyboards. I don't dislike razer, I dislike bad products. (Some of) their mouses and the blackwidow are great. Even great companies can make bad products.

I have this, I like it. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Sidewinder-Gaming-Keyboard-Port/dp/B001DWI4FM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1301284000&sr=8-1
I've been loving my G19, but if I had to rethink, I'd go with the Razer Lycosa.
Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Not gimmicky, cheap price, has macro buttons and dedicated media buttons, backlit and also looks great But if you can go for a mechanical keyboard, haven't ever used one but i really do want one and they're supposedly great
and only mechanical keyboards are good keyboards
oh, wow
I have the G15, it's perfection.
I like the way this man thinks. You should listen to what he says, OP. [editline]28th March 2011[/editline] IMHO, I'd get the Das Keyboard... [editline]28th March 2011[/editline] [img_thumb]http://www.everythingusb.com/images/list/das_pro_keyboard_news.jpg[/img_thumb]
This is a nice looking keyboard. The original G15 is a nice one that I have used for quite a while, however it is big and kind of tacky looking compared to this one. I don't know any reviews on the Das keyboard, but based on looks it is nice looking.
Well, I like my BlackWidow so far....
Here's my personal review: Absolutely wonderful in every single way. I've used and owned many keyboards in the past, including but not limited to the NEC APC-H412, Unicomp Customizer, Model M, Saitek Eclipse II, Razer Lycosa, Rosewill RK-9000, and a menagerie of cheap Dell keyboards, and absolutely none of them come even close to this keyboard in feel, looks, and usability (except maybe the APC-H412, since it has full NKRO.) It's in a class of its own. My Rosewill RK-9000 started randomly making me typee liike thiiss so I had to RMA it. My Lycosa's shift key broke after about four months when I was trying to clean the thing (fragile keys they are) and generally the build quality was absolutely abysmal (the built-in headphone and mic jacks were so horrible they caused distortion everywhere they went, the keyboard felt extremely flimsy, and the media keys were terrible to use.) My Eclipse II's spacebar broke after about a year of normal use, both of the hinges on one side broke (again, cheap build quality, China plastic) and half of the keycaps were worn off to the point you couldn't even recognize what letter was what. The NEC APC-H412 is a good keyboard that's very well built, but it's very unsightly and the keyswitches are very strange, only clicking when the key is bottomed out. The Customizer 104 has the best feel out of all of the other keyboards listed and also has excellent build quality, but it has abysmal NKRO (press three keys at once and the entire keyboard locks up.) Same goes for the Model M since they're pretty much the same keyboard. My Das pretty much rectifies every single problem I've had with past keyboards and goes above and beyond everything else I've ever used. It has wonderful feel to type on, full NKRO, extremely solidly built (this isn't an understatement), and is probably the best looking keyboard I've ever seen save for maybe the Filco Majestouch (which looks simpler and doesn't have a Piano Black gloss finish.) The only thing I'd change on it is the inclusion of media keys, but I already have other keybinds for those at this point anyway, so it doesn't matter. [img_thumb]http://www.nottarga.com/justice/Pictures/Temporary/d.png[/img_thumb]
You should write a review for my thread on your das.
I love my Cyborg V7 but people do have a problem with them and some people say they don't last long. It's been working like a charm for me though.
gen1 g15 i dumped a large glass of water on mine last night and after a quick disassembly and drying (water getting between the contact sheets is a bitch) it works flawlessly still one of the best non-mechanical keyboards ever made, if not the best
I still have my old Compaq Persario Multimedia PS2. It's a fucking brick, but my god it's awesome. Just saying not to be old.
Razer Blackwidow. If you didn't want the backlighting I recommend the Dell AT101W.
It costs 50 bucks more to backlight it which isn't that bad because it's technically 50 cents to backlight each key

Is back lighting purely cosmetic? [editline]29th March 2011[/editline] I mean, is there a practical use for it?
Whatever you get make sure it's a mechanical keyboard
I agree with going for the Das. It looks like an amazing keyboard and I'm going to be buying myself one when I have enough money to be able to swallow $120 for a keyboard. If you do get a Das Keyboard, make sure you go with the "Silent" edition, as it has different MX Cherry Black key switches that are slightly quieter and don't clack as loud as the MX Cherry Blue key switches do. I've heard Blues before; they're annoying as fuck. The blank version is just badass.
