The Gamecube is two generations old now. There's no reason to continue support for it.

then can they at least stock pro controllers? they can barely be found anywhere, and the prices go up to $80
i really don't get why they just can't map it to a regular pro controller layout, it doesn't even have a motion sensor

that would make sense if we were talking about producing new controllers or making an adapter, but if it wasn't enough to stop them from making them in the first place why would it stop them from supporting them? I cannot believe that software support would really be more costly than producing them in the first place.
The absolute worst part about this is that the Wii supported Gamecube controllers but Wii Mode does not support the adapter. Is it too much to ask for at least having the gamecube inputs be mapped to the equivalent inputs in games for the wii classic controller and have games treat them as a wired classic controller?
What happened to the gamecube controller support that was talked about for Smash Bros?
What happened to the gamecube controller support that was talked about for Smash Bros?
They made like 10,000 gamecube adapters and then said fuck it when they grossly underestimated how many people wanted one.
Back around release they were on ebay for like £200

funnily enough homebrew on the wii mode sometimes supports the adapter
Maybe because the gamecube controller is a really long lasting and very confortable controller, except for the noise it does.
"Man, the Xbox One sucks, it doesn't even support The Duke!"

What are you talking about? They're in stock at most Best Buys, at least.

This analogy would make sense if Microsoft released a new Duke for the Xbox One, but it only supported one game.

I am only compatible with the Wii U.

The Gamecube controller is still a better controller than the Wii U Pro controller
I think the opposite really, I can't go back to the gamecube controller after using the Wii U Pro controller, it just feels really uncomfortable and weird to me even in smash.
Pro u controller is better anyways

Honestly I'm just grateful they did something for Smash Bros.
Would it be nice to have compatibility for other titles? Sure. I just cared about having it for Smash but I was perfectly okay with using the Pro Controller.
The wii u pro controller layout bothers me every time I see it, I don't like the idea of the face buttons being under the right analog stick, it feels wrong.

Like several (and many, many others) have already said, I don't get why Nintendo didn't just make the buttons bind to a Pro or Classic Controller equivalent. Shit, they made a bunch of Gamecube-style Classic Controllers that are pretty cheap quality but didn't make the adapter even compatible with Wii Mode or Wii games on the eShop. To make it selectively work for only Smash 4 was a massive missed opportunity, even for such an old controller.
