Proteus is fucking awesome, I played it while drunk and it made me laugh, cry and weep in fear, then I laughed again. It was really atmospheric. [sp]if anyone played it you might know what I'm talking about, a mountain with graves, a ghost?[/sp]
I think the walking simulator joke went way over this guy's head.
proteus is pretty great, it was mysterious and atmospheric and creepy and beautiful all at the same time and i just found it really enjoyable myself
Ricky: I don’t think Proteus is an exploring game. It kind of confounds exploring. I’ve never played it and not wandered around according to my whim. I’ve never tried to be systematic about it or mapped it.
Ed: Yes, it’s more of a wandering and being surprised game.
this is spot on
When I first played Proteus I had no idea what to expect, it was 3 in the morning and dark, and it was an oddly thrilling experience
Why not find a different term, rather than one that’s already in use by Steam morons to describe “FPS where you don’t shoot”?
No, I think they nailed it pretty spot on.

I see it as a term that refers to games that sacrifice heavy interactivity for a focus on narrative or visuals. It's a plus for some.

Gamers are quick to cook up slurs to dismiss games which don't meet their specific expectations; the best thing to do is try to reclaim any that can be reclaimed. I like walking.
