Problem getting Set Top Box working within Windows Media Center

I recently bought a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1600 tv tuner card, and it works perfectly within Windows Media Center without using the Set Top Box. But when I do use the Set Top Box, it keeps telling me "IR Hardware Not Detected". I have found a way to bypass it, but the channel within Windows Media Center must be on 4, and I change the channels through the box. The problem with that is that I can't record anything from within Windows Media Center.
I have the IR Blaster that comes with my Tv Tuner Card, but is there something else I need for the set top box to work?
