some say this is the last good battlefield game
They're wrong. Bad Company 2 had a ton of problems which were fixed in BF3, and then BF4. It was a great game but the balance was utter trash. Slug shotguns were a 1 hit kill from up to 50 metres, smoke grenade spam was ridiculous, and the complete lack of anti-air meant helicopters dominated matches if a pilot was half competent.
And let's not forget the infamous hill wookies.
Is this still very active?

Not 'very active', but if you're looking for a game, you'll be able to find one.
some say this is the last good battlefield game
Rose-tinted goggles, really. That, and you'll find someone saying the last Battlefield was the last good one no matter where in the Battlefield timeline you go. There are already people insisting BF4 was the last good one now that BF1 is on the horizon.
Is this still very active?
it definitely will be with this sale

The key word in this post is "some" and not "most" or "all" or "a majority of people"

I'd rather take the unbalanced fun-times than bland mass-appeal.
some say this is the last good battlefield game
It wasn't the last good battlefield game, but it was the last Battlefield game that FELT like a Battlefield game. 3 and 4 take themselves seriously while the comical zaney gameplay of all the BF games still existed in BC2
It's looking like Battlefield 1 might recapture SOME of the silliness of the original few, though

As someone who knows nothing about Bad Company 2, this sentence is hilarious :v:
I personally think on the multiplayer side BF3 and BF4 improved on BC2 (Singleplayer is a different story). The only thing I'd complain about is map design. The sequels had some good maps, too, but just being able to level the entire map had it's magic.

But shooting those damned OP helicopters down with a tank was the best part :v:
And the fucked up little cutscenes at the end of rounds:

Unbalance isn't "fun".

Unbalance is why Warframe used to be so much fun.
Bad Company series are very different to the other Battlefields
Bought two copies for my friends. Just FYI, some cracked servers allow you to access 'Nam content from base BC2, so keep that in mind
Bad Company series are very different to the other Battlefields
The problem is that no one really knows how to recapture the magic. It's a shame
I liked Bad Company 2 a lot because its destruction mechanic felt the most dynamic and responsive
It annoys me greatly how in BF3, BF4, and BF1 there is loads of cover and walls you cannot scratch even with the heaviest of weapons. In BF4, they try to give the illusion of destruction with things like that one skyscraper in that one map that collapses halfway through, but it doesn't really add up when that map is littered with buildings that have indestructible walls and never collapse anyway.
In BFBC2 though, you can level almost any building and blow up basically any wall you come across on a multiplayer map. You can make new entrances into buildings and wreck a squad of campers by destroying the building they're in.

You can do all that in BF1 too though. You can even make giant craters anywhere and use them for cover.

Or have artillery bombard an area so hard that soldiers can't get out of the craters.
BC2 had a far better rush mode than BF3 and BF4 combined.
Valparaiso rush was fucking great.
some say this is the last good battlefield game
I'd say BF3 is the last good one, if we're looking purely from a total warfare type deal then you can argue that BF2 was even better than the rest because it had everything without needing a new game sans destruction and pretty graphics.
There was
Tanks
APCs
Transport Helis
Attack Helis
Fighter Jets
Bomber Jets
Commander role which wasn't shit
8 Man squads and several classes complimenting each other
Spec Ops
Sniper
Assault
Support
Medic
Anti-Tank
Engineer
Personally I liked the 8 man squads and 7 different classes because it made you have to rely on X person in your squad or team to get the job done. Spec Ops could break enemy assets and due the less than famous from BF2, stick C4 to enemy vehicles like jets, helis, and tanks and deploy them. But they had limited C4 and could NOT resupply themselves so they'd need to be get in and get out, as well and steal assets like helis and planes to deny access. While BF2142 changed the dymanic with 6 man squads and 4 classes but every class being a hybrid, IE Assault and Medic are now condensed, Spec Ops and Snipers become Recon, Anti-Tank and Engineers as Engineers, and then Support being a class of it's own.

You must've never rolled a squad of tracking darts and Carl Gustavs in BC2 before, pretty sad.
I rushed to the store page to pick it up and then realized that this is an old thread, super sad now, BC2 was my favorite.

The fun of using something overpowered is countered just as much, if not more so, by the frustration of being on the receiving end.
And I've played BC2 for 215 hours, thank you very much. I've had my share of invincible choppers and snipers using slug shotguns.

Hell in the beta I did nothing but make all entrances into the town a big moat.

Hell even Battlefield 3 feels weird now with BF4.

That's because the Bad Company 2 maps were designed for rush. It doesn't work well when placed on conquest maps. Honestly I think DICE should include dedicate half the maps to rush and half the maps to conquest, half the maps go unused anyway for each game mode, they may s well be designed around the game modes.
Can any Australians speak on the population of this game? I want to play it again but not if it's dead.

Last time I played there was always 1-2 populated servers, but this was about 6ish months ago.

Shit, better not then.
