i'm not sure what sub-thread it should go in (PC building was my next choice)
anyway, my PC is old and run down.. and while i don't have enough money to buy a brand new top of the line desktop i have enough to mod it a fair bit
(about £150 not much, but it would get me somthing)
what i really want to do is increasing my CPU, i have a feeling that is what is holding my PC back
("intel(R) celeron(R) CPU 2.80GHz
1.49GB RAM incase you where wondering)
dell 3100
my question is.. With such a old desktop, would it just be cheaper, to wait and save my money for a shiny new one
this thing has been with me since childhood, i've never even though about getting rid of it until now, FP help me out here..
We need more information, motherboard, graphics card, etc..
150£ is a tight budget, but you need to increase your CPU and ram.
But your best option is to save more.
If you want to make your computer faster, you should first get a new hard-drive.
Because in every computer, the hard-drive is the main bottleneck.
I'd recommend you buying one of those 10,000 RPM Raptor hard-drives.

...wat
I say wait and save up for a new computer, this one can't be saved for $150.
Harddrives do slow down computers, if you've got a shit one then it can cause you to run slowly, though it wont help you much with what you have.
Save up.
Also Noz, please stop being an idiot
He has 150 POUNDS
GBP
GREAT BRITISH POUND STERLING
£150=/=150$
OK?
Save up, youll need around 400+

cheers for the advice, hopefull it shouldn't take to long
thanks
Cool
Actually £150 is around $220
I never said it didn't
Pick up an Athlon II X2 and an AM2+/AM3 mobo and some RAM. and a new video card, because you're obviously running on integrated. If your case is BTX, you will need a new case too, and possibly a new PSU.
Say Athlon II X2, 2 GB DDR2, mobo, and a 8400 GS, will probably run you 200
Save up, thats a pointless upgrade buttsex, he might aswell go to around 400£ and get a decent computer
