Maxis better fix this shit up then, "Major engineering" my ass.
This is some bullshit, seriously, they straight up lied to us and we're letting them get away with it.
Maxis should really give an explanation for this.

Assuming it's real, of course.

"Would you believe us if we told you that we did it for your own good?"
I read somewhere that when the notice for the offline status come up, the game itself still runs in the background. Assuming this is the case, how hard would it be to either suppress this message or force it offscreen and allow interaction with the game?
i bet EA told maxis to bend the truth about the server calculations
i mean a greedy as fuck company such as EA would never let Maxis burn so much money on servers.

Considering in the beta the popups were script based, you could edit the actual code with something like cheat engine while the game is running.

this is where crackers will come in and get you your offline mode.

or, EA and Maxis specifically did not buy mass amounts of servers because THEY KNEW not that much data was being passed from the clients to the servers, so they projected not many would be needed to supply demand, all the while pumping this simulation nonsense as a way to justify the DRM that EA sure as hell mandated covering it up with these ancillary things that the server doesn't actually need to be doing.
Cheeta mode blew up in their face though because they vastly under calculated the quantity of incoming information from these ancillary things to the server, because they weren't expecting that much because the game is not running a full simulation of what the client is doing
So they've been lying to us or at least warping the truth from the get go.
Dear Maxis and EA management
Fuck you.
Die in a Fire, Everyone.
When SimCity 5 was announced, diddnt they say it would have modding and that it would be very flexible?
Lol, guess that was a lie.

It wouldn't even be hard to make an offline mode WITH the nifty region stuff if they allowed for offline regions ffs.

They said the same shit when BF3 came out.
We knew that was a lie from the start

They even left the bugs for the community to solve!

No I'm not. I haven't bought an EA game for ages, and if I have it's been something like Dead Space in a Steam sale for £1.75.
They can't be making profit from that. HA HA!

Some Jimmies have been rustled.
“It wouldn’t take very much engineering to give you a limited single-player game without all the nifty region stuff.”
But the nifty region stuff is necessary to make functional cities since they're so small, and it just so happens that the servers are doing the nifty region stuff.
They shouldn't be though, and that's the problem.
The claims about the server handling the calculations were confirmed bullshit during the beta when people were playing their entire hour allotment offline. It's funny that they added an artificial desync command that only triggers after 20 minutes though.
They really need to offline the game. It would be good for them and the gamers.
