• Help testing a processor

I went to Microcenter today to upgrade my processor to something I can overclock better. I have an E6550, only 7x multiplier, which I am currently using. The new processor I picked up was an E5300, 13x multiplier, which was on sale for $50 so I though it would be worth it; clocks to 3.5Ghz without adjusting voltage. They are also both 65W TDP so they should have worked fine. I am using an aftermarket cooler from Scythe. I did the usual, remove connections on the back, ground yourself, etc. Everything goes fine and I put in the E5300, no problems yet. I have everything hooked back up and... no post , nothing, error lights don't light up; must be something wrong with the processor. I go online and confirm my motherboard supports the processor with the current BIOS version. I give up and put the old processor back in and it boots up fine; I did reset the bios before trying to install the new processor. Is there any other way to see if the processor is dead besides having it in the motherboard; it is the only motherboard I have available that can use Wolfdale processors. Any ideas?
Return the CPU. Your motherboard works fine and supports it, but it won't work. Obviously the CPU is faulty.
