• Power supply doesn't have enough 4 pin molex - splitters a viable solution?

Basically the person who wired this computer has made a mess of the wires and there's about 6 or 7 molex plugs and I've only got four. Can I use a power splitter to power the fans and graphics card? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Splitter-Cable-Molex-Lead/dp/B000ITL4KI One of those
fans yes graphics card might be a bad idea, you should post your full specs, including PSU
For fans you can daisy chain them. For the graphics card, it's better if you don't use a splitter.
Splitters will work fine for fans. You can also daisy-chain them to have them all run off a single Molex connector. For your graphics card, you'll want discrete power to it.
I'm powering a XFX 6800 Xtreme on a splitter. Its workin' fine.

I cannibalised some molex plugs from my burnt out PSU and choc-blocked them onto the cables going to the redundant SATA connection. Worked like a charm. Looks like a piece of shit but at least it works! PC World were gonna sell me a £70 PSU and charge me £20 labour. I went to Maplins and got a £30 PSU. Eat that, you con artists!
I went to Maplins and got a £30 PSU.
uh oh I don't think maplins sell a single half decent PSU, it's all terrorist grade crap all I'm seeing is icute, xpower, cit, all generically named and incredibly shit stuff hell for actual components they're pretty shit in general
If it works then that's good enough
If it works then that's good enough
It's gonna short/blow up, give your PC a nice healthy surge of power, frying everything before bursting into flames and burning your house down. There's a reason why we buy from reputable brands and not ricer crap made by 7 year olds in China.
Don't be so dramatic. If it was liable to do that then it wouldn't pass EU safety regulations.
you'd be surprised at the off brand shit you can buy http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/12/17/diablotek_phd650_650w_power_supply_review/9 a named example
Retailers and e-tailers should be ashamed to be selling such a product.
shops don't give a shit what they're selling, they just sell what people will buy and unfortunately a lot of people will buy utter shit
Skimping on your power supply can be very risky. A lot of the cheaper brands cut corners like a bitch.
Yeah never skimp out on the power supply, always go for reputable brands or you risk frying everything.
Theres no such thing as a "budget" power supply. You either have a good one or a bad one.
This is the one I've got; http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=345571 If it blows then I'll let you know
I like how it has 4x 12v rails. edit: this is just an inference, but I think it should be right. The 12v rails are split up because each rail is made of inferior quality and thus is not rated for a high amount of current flowing through it. In order to painfully achieve the 680w mark they put a couple of rails so that the combined power reaches 680w.

" "It has been a long time since we have seen such a useless power supply come through our review process." Holy damn.
It's still working fine, chumps!
Everyone is just speechless with fury obviously EDIT: Yeeeee let it sink in
It's only been a month. Just wait, hezzy, that stuff will blow up when you least expect it.
It's still working fine, chumps!
That's nice
680W, no PFC, name brand, no 80 certificate, only one SATA power connector, no 6-pin connector? For 50 Pounds? On the bright side, it has a floppy connector. Hezzy, I am disappoint in. When your computer breaks I'll be happy to recommend you a proper PSU.
Still working fine :smug:
Still working fine :smug:
Italy is still working ok, but that doesn't make Berlusconi any less corrupt. Also, I checked this thread out 35 min ago.. Goddamn creepy that you should bump it now.
Still working fine :smug:
Put Prime95 on maxium heat and power consumption and Furmark on stability test with extreme burning mode and run that for like 12 hours to see if your PSU can really be trusted.
Why would I want to try to break my PSU? That's dumb.
Why would I want to try to break my PSU? That's dumb.
so you're confident enough in it to brag but not enough to put anywhere near a reasonable amount of load on the system? haha ok, have fun replacing parts because it lacks basic protection
You're dumb
