*list starts out with Birdo and Piranha Plant*
I'm sorry, what?

And not even Petey Piranha.
This list is pretty mediocre, few of these choices would be any good and some of them would just be plain out of place.
In case you don't want to watch the entire video:
10. Birdo
9. Piranha Plant
8. Impa
7. Banjo and Kazooie
6. Toad
5. Conker
4. Shy Guy
3. Frog (Chrono Trigger)
2. Sora
1. Bayonetta
No Simon Belmont 0/10

Bayonetta, sure, absolutely. Impa, I guess though people already complain enough about clones, and she'd likely be somewhat of a Sheik clone. The rest I couldn't care about.
And yes, a Belmont would be awesome. (Though if we're going for Castlevania character, throw in Shanoa. Nobody can touch her.)
I would be totally on board with Bango+Kazooie, Bayonetta, and Sora. That'd be fuckin' sick, especially their Amiibo figures.
Skull Kid and Waluigi are the two that everybody wants, right?
These are all horrible choices except for bayonetta which is the lowest hanging fruit there is so really

I'd do anything for Waluigi.

Literally the best fucker to represent all of the Gaiden Super Mario games, also best liked character in the West. But we can't have that, I guess.
At least Samus still doesn't talk.

I've got bad news...

Banjo and toad would be great,
As much as I like Bayo it's probably a better idea to not try to fit her into a PG/E10+/T/whatever-rated game. Snake fit because he primarily used explosives and CQC but most of Bayo's schtick is sex appeal and firearms and she would have to be bastardized beyond belief to fit into the rating.
As far as a second Sega rep could go I actually think Jack Frost from SMT would work, since Sega owns Atlus now. MegaTen has been on loads of Nintendo consoles and he's the mascot for the entire series, plus he's cute enough for the kids.
Simon Belmont would be cool for a second Konami rep though as well, assuming Snake made it back too.
I'd do anything for Waluigi.
Anything? Well, my uncle works for Nintendo.
Get on your knees and I might talk to him.
I think Sakurai has just decided at this point that Toad wouldn't work, he'd already be in the game if this wasn't the case. Same with Ridley. What he should do is take a bit of artistic liberty and scale toad up and give him muscular arms, as a reference to Toad being strong as fuck in Super Mario Bros 2. That would be fun. Anyway, when you look at the newcomers in Smash 4, they're all either very recent characters whose games came out either after Brawl or a short months before (Rosalina, Wii Fit Trainer, Mii Fighters, Shulk, Greninja, Robin, Lucina, Dark Pit) or they're much older characters who have either had a recent revival (Little Mac, Palutena and the Koopalings) or were chosen specifically because they're historically significant (Duck Hunt.) Pretty much the only exceptions are Bowser Jr. (and he could be argued to be a retro representative with a recent revival, because his moveset is entirely clown-car base and he's bundled with the Koopalings) and Villager, whose addition was definitely helped by the incredible popularity of Animal Crossing: New Leaf.
The other noticable trend is that every Smash game has had a recent (and very recent at that) Pokemon in it, Melee having Pichu, Brawl having Lucario, and Smash 4 having Greninja. Expect another one in Smash 5. From this, I think it's pretty clear that most if not all of the newcomers will adhere to these principles. Most of the characters they'll add in Smash 5 probably don't even exist yet, and on top of that, there are so many characters now that it's hard to add obvious characters that they just haven't gotten around to yet, such as the additions of Little Mac and Villager in this one. Perhaps the only one still left is Dixie Kong. I'm expecting that she, Waluigi and Takamaru will be among the few who are added that already exist, Waluigi because they have to add someone, and Takamaru because I'm expecting Nintendo to revive Mysterious Murasame Castle after all the exposure and acknowledgement in Nintendo Land and Smash Bros 4, as well as the game finally being officially released outside of Japan, but even if they don't, he'd make a good retro rep.
I wish Golden Sun would get a rep, it'd make for a pretty cool character I'd say.

TBH I think Bayonetta is a sure in for smash 5. Especially since Ninty picked up the IP.

Lowest hanging fruit, really?
Lowest hanging fruit, really?
I think he just meant that it's the most obvious choice for Smash Bros.
