So me and my sister both got the same laptop for Christmas last year, a Toshiba Satellite M505-S4975.
they both seemed to work great for the first few months, but the connection between the charger and the D/C jack always seemed a little loose from the start. So we decided to wait a couple months and if the charger started to fail we would send them back. They held up for about a year (now past the warranty) but then my sisters charger broke. i looked up Toshiba's website for a replacement and it turns out a replacement charger will run you around $100, yea, not happening. We shared my charger for awhile until that one broke a week later. So we decided to go looking for a universal charger. We got two for $8 each. Perfect.
Then that one broke too. There was nothing wrong with the cord or the brick but the connection between the jack and the plug seemed to get looser overtime, and eventually just stop charging it. So we got yet another set of chargers and the same thing happened to those two. now we are left again with one charger and some sharpened pitchforks ready to.......
Anyway, so I thought instead of replacing the charger, why don't i just replace the D/C jack?
not only did the thought of tearing my laptop into pieces intimidate me a little, but i also want to make sure that it is possible to replace the jack with a different one, maybe one similar to my dad's dell which uses a bigger jack and plug combination, thus making it much stronger.
Is there anyway that this is possible?
Does anyone else have the same problem?
Is there any other solution?
Here is a pic of my laptop.

Replacing the jack is not going to happen.
So what should i do then? im not just going to keep buying chargers.
Solution is to not move the computer or cord around whilst it is charging.
I dont move it while its charging, but i plug and unplug it a lot. I constantly move from my moms house and my dads house: The whole reason i got a laptop instead of a desktop for school.
well spend more than 8 bucks for a universal charger.
I did, the last couple of chargers cost me 60. I'm not going to just ignore this and spend another 60 bucks every month, I dont know about you but money doesn't come that easy.
Well chargers dont break just because they want to.
If the charger is loose from the start its called a design flaw. Besides, I'm not going white water rafting with it! laptop chargers should be able to withstand YEARS of normal wear and tear. That's what laptops are designed for. They are supposed to be portable in everyday scenarios like "going to Moms house".
Feel free to accuse me for doing something that was already intended to be done.
I made this thread to find a solution to a problem, and answers that say "spend more money" and "don't move a portable device" don't help at all.

Generally, the laptop is only portable whilst it is on pure battery power. If you are just charging it, it really should not be moved and replacing the d/c jack in the computer is going to fuck everything up. You have only 3 choices
A)Call toshiba and see if it is a huge problem or not and how much it would cost to repair it
B)Get a new cord (that preferably is not 8 dollars [do research and read reviews]) and do not move it at all whilst it is charging. Do this while the computer is not in use if you can.
C)Get a desktop.
Like I said, I do not move my laptop while it is charging, that's just moronic.
Also, getting a desktop really isn't in view at the moment and that would also cause a problem for school being that I live in two different houses. And why the hell would i even think about buying another charger if i KNOW that it is only going to break again.
Calling Toshiba is also just asking for a migraine because 90% of their staff consists of Indian guys reading from a manual. along with the WORST costumer service I have ever dealt with. and seeing that a replacement charger from them costs $100 bucks, I don't think that a jack replacement could be any cheaper
Well those are the only things you can do.
There is absolutely NO WAY i can replace the jack? even with the same voltage or anything? Then i could use a bigger plug that would hold better.

No, you will fuck things up. Do not do it.
Alright, well i guess its either buy a new charger, or buy a new laptop. :L
