So, for Christmas I got some new 5.1 surround sound speakers. These ones to be precise. I have them all hooked up right, but when I go to listen to something only the left and right speaker work, not the center, rear left, or rear right work. I am on Vista Ultimate x64, and I am using an integrated Realtek HD Audio.
Go to your Controle Panel, go to Audio/Sound and click on it. There, you have a list of your audio devices such as "Headphone" etc. Click on your primary audio device. On the lower left corner, you'll find "Configurate". Follow this wizard and set it to 5.1.
what are you trying to play? Is it set up for 5.1? If not there you go.

I have center/sub/left/right/side left/side right. But the side speakers selection is grayed out.
Anybody else?
Anybody else?
I guess what i just posted in another thread applies here as well. However, most apps only output in stereo on the first two channels which are mostly front left and right. If you can set them somewhere to accept stereo input they will probably interpolate the rest of the speakers and you'll have at least fake surround.
You need actual 5.1 content.
The problem is that you are playing 2ch sources (like music) and the speakers play what they are getting. I would assume that the RealtekHD would have some sort of stereo upmix. I have a Creative SB and and the 'upmix' setting I'm talking about is called Stereo Surround so maybe the realtekHD has something similar When you play a game they work fine right?
