are sound cards actually worth it if you have a decent set of speakers. Do they make that much of a difference?
Depends what your onboard is. If your motherboard has good onboard (higher-end realtek chip, etc) then no, not really. If it's some crap AC97 by Sigmatel, then yes, a soundcard is worth it. If the sound/music sounds fine to you on onboard, why invest in anything more?
Decent speakers are also very subjective. What speakers do you have, exactly?
nothing too special http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836116048
What motherboard/onboard audio do you have?
here it is. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176 my fault on the last response
If your headphones or speakers are average, it's not worth it to invest in a sound card. Once you start paying over $50 to get some quality headphones such as AD700s, at that point buying a sound card does make it sound better. I'd say though just save up for better speakers or headphones.
I wouldn't get a soundcard until you were in the $100+ range for the speakers
well i have sony mdr v6s......for headphones. theyre like 70 buckks.
IDK about Realtek - I don't really like their onboard sound, though, but VIA HD onboard is pretty good. Just turn it up to 24 bit audio and the sample rate, too, maybe, and you should be fine.
The newer Realtek HD chips aren't too bad, The integrated stuff certainly has got better.
Depends on what speakers/headset you have and how enthuiastic you are when it comes to sound. I myself are addicted to music and love audio, but I don't really create music or so. I would if I had the talent for it, but I don't.
I recently bought the Asus Xonar DS, a PCI audio card, low profile. It doesn't have any advanced ports or so, it got the basics that an average user will make use of. I really really like it, it's well worths it's value. Almost like it's a bit too cheap, because for me it has really done it's job really well.
So I'd recommend it to everyone who wants more than the integrated sound, but nothing super duper fancy. It doesn't have a lot of features like the "fancy" ones, but I myself don't have any need for those. All I want is a sound card that can deliver great sound quality and does what I want it to do. The Xonar DS does that perfectly for me.
alright thanks. i guess ill stick with the onboard sound
I only use my soundcard to record sound on my PC, if not them I'm using Logitech Z-10.
Buying good speakers is actually going to improve the sound quality instead of a sound card, with that being said, sound cards are still good for recording audio with low latency
