A couple of questions about INSURGENCY: Modern Infantry Combat
11 replies, posted
I'm thinking of installing this game, but i haven't been fully convinced.
1. Do people still play this game? Or is it dead?
2. Do the battles feel large scale or small scale? (large scale = Battlefield series, small scale = counter strike)
3. Does it feel like an actual war or just a re-skin of counter strike?
4. Is the game still updated?
5. Do most servers play standard game modes? Or custom game modes?
6. How's the player community?
7. Are there a vast amount of weapons to choose from? Or are all the weapons just basically the same thing with a different model and sounds?
8. How are weapons obtained in the game? Does it use a buy system like in Counter-Strike?

also, i read on wikipedia that it only takes 2-4 shots to kill someone, doesn't this mean the game gets frustrating?
1. Yes
2. Large
3. It's one of the most immersive games I've ever played, so yes.
4. Yes (but slowly)
5. Mostly Standard
6. Mostly good, allthough there are some griefers, like in any game
7. There's a decent amount of weapons, and they all have their unique feel
8. You start with weapons based on your class or you can pick them up from bodies.
Either way I would install it, you have nothing to lose. I havn't played in a while but I really enjoyed the game when I played it.

It can, but it also makes kills more rewarding. I personally don't mind it though.
alright, i was kinda of thinking this game was "counter strike in iraq"
thanks for answering my questions :buddy:
i kinda want a game that gets your blood pumping and doesn't have some dumb gameplay mechanism that ruins the whole game.

It's counter strike in iraq with 1 shot kills. That's all. I never got why people jacked off over this mod so much. It's ruined by aiming mechanic that can be dominated by twitch shooting, making any measure of realism fly out the window. Better off getting ArmA 2 and investing some time into one of the large realism communities that run scenarios.
would if work if i put a piece of blu-tack in the middle of my screen as a crosshair? :raise:
to be honest the "1-hit and you're dead" sounds dumb :frown:
Its pretty fun, but Project Reality completely outclasses it.
I don't really like BF2, i prefer 2142 to be honest

I'm searching for a game that's mostly infantry/light vehicle combat, and is more a "duck and shoot" type of a game. I hate twitch shooters.

As the guy above you said:

Project reality is amazing. It's not a twitch shooter, and can be unbelievebly intense at times, for example when your one of the Jihad style people and you are having your base raided (This may be incorrect, its been a long time since I've played it, I lost BF2)
Personally I love this mod. It's fantastic. I love the aiming mechanic and how it's realistic (1-3 Shot Kills) Flanking and getting lot's of kills is awesome. It might be biased, because I'm quite good at the game (which makes it more fun). It would take some time to get used to, hope you don't give up on it completely.
Insurgency takes a week or two to get used to. After that, it's awesome. Trust me.
Insurgency is fun, but COMMUNICATION IS KEY. Try to use a mic so you can tell your teammates the enemy positions and if an objective is being attacked.
Also I don't have BF2, but Project Reality sounds fun.
Its got a nice feel, especially with the free weapon aiming.
