• Can I use Linux to scan a Windows drive?

My brother has screwed up his windows install with a virus and has lost the windows install disc. I'm thinking of installing a linux distro to a flash drive and booting from that, so I can scan the inactive windows drive. Is there any specific distro or program you would recommend to do this with?
The best way i clean up windows installs are: Download Dr.Web's Antivirus bootable CD. Boot to it, scan, and destroy whatever it finds. Next, boot a BartPE or ERD Commander boobable CD, with a flash drive plugged it beforehand. that flashdrive should have a portable version of Malwarebytes on it, so you can scan the C:\ drive when the disc is booted. After the scan, reboot, and scan again from within the infected OS.
If you know where the virus is, you can use a LiveCD version of KNOPPIX, and I've done this multiple times while screwing around with some windows .dll's. All you have to do is burn the ISO from another computer and boot the cd. Then you can mount the windows storage partition and edit/delete the infected files. If you don't know where they are, then use the above post.
You could also try BitDefender. It's basically a linux LiveCD with antivirus/malware tools on it. It can also connect to the internet to download the latest updates. http://download.bitdefender.com/rescue_cd/
