Ok, so here's the deal:
In some, but not all, graphical intensive games (notably Crysis Warhead, STALKER - Call of Pripyat and Borderlands (only after getting the DLC)) I experience total driver failure after around 45-60 minutes of playing. This results in either crashing to desktop (after which graphical anomalies persist but disappear after reboot), BSOD, or extensive graphical anomalies in-game (my game ends up looking something like this).
I am using a 2gb variant of the nVidia 285 GTX manufactured by Gainward, and I check for driver updates at least once a fortnight. I have the latest drivers from nVidia but the problem remains.
I used to have the nVidia 8800 GTS 512mb manufactured by ASUS, which functioned perfectly for the 2 years I have had this computer. However, after a week playing the latest STALKER (same as above) I started experiencing black-outs and graphical anomalies. After this the card appeared the deteriorate quickly, soon I could not play TF2, and after that not even WoW would work on low graphics. I bought a new card (the 285 GTX) as I was convinced this was simply a card issue.
Although the new card has allowed me to play my regular games again, in graphically intense games I appear to be getting the same problem as before.
My other system specs are:
Intel Q9300 quad-core (4 x 2.5GHz)
4gb RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit
Asus P5N-D motherboard
650w PSU
The CPU has a heatsink and copper pipe cooling system, and the computer has 2 internal fans as well as the graphics card having 2 fans of its own, so I do not believe it to be a heat-related issue.
I am trying to get this resolved quickly so if anyone is trying to help and needs more information, I'll do what I can.
Bump.
