Secondly simply because someone buys a titan x doesn't preclude anything else about their financial means other than they bought a titan x.

3 grand will put a notable dent in most budgets whether you have a job or not. I know people making well over 100k a year that 3k would still be a dent.

The 980 is terrible price/performance. It's a midrange card priced high end because it doesn't have any competition at the moment.

a computer is more than just a gpu you know, a titan x build would cost almost 2k in the end once you add it all up, maybe 1700$
you don't hook the titan x up to the monitor and that's it and play

the point is that it's not cheap at all. "Isn't really expensive for gaming", when the entire gpu costs as much as an entire high end gaming rig.

You probably can't since they might require you to register a serial number (they are unique number sequence), which can only be found in a real graphics card. I remember you could fake having an AMD card when there was that free HL2DM AMD promo, but I'm pretty sure these promos aren't done the same way.
