• Rigging my XBOX 360 to my PC monitor?

How would I go about doing so? I feel like getting one for Christmas and it'd be a good idea to run it through one of my monitors instead of going out and buying a PC. Is there some sort of cable that'll do it? Also, how would I be able to get sound through it? I'm fairly sure one of my monitors has speakers, but is it better to just buy a cheap set of Turtle Beaches?
You'll need a VGA cable, they usually cost around £20. For sound you'll have to get a pair of speakers or a headset. I wouldn't buy Turtle Beach because they tend to have poor build quality. Be warned though, some XBOX original games don't have support for VGA.
Would I be better off getting the expensive microsoft one or a cheapy one from amazon?
HDMI would be cheaper, that's what I use.
Depends, if I were you and I had the money I'd get the official microsoft one, as if the amazon one is faulty I'd have to go through all the trouble of posting it back for a refund.
My monitor doesn't have an HDMI port, and it's only 1280x1024, so there's no point in that. I'll probably go ahead and get the official VGA cable though. Last question, what will be the best way of buying the console? Should I find a used one? Should I just buy a new arcade and a 20gb hard drive? Or should I get the 4gig slim?
Wait what the hell? The 360 has a VGA port? When did this happen?

I have this one and it works great http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3666

OP, can I thank you for bringing this type of cable to my attention. I'm going to get a Xbox 360 for Christmas and the only TV I have is a shitty little analogue one. But because of this I can now use my monitor, so thanks. [editline]14th November 2010[/editline]
Last question, what will be the best way of buying the console? Be aware though, some games online play can be limited on the 4 gig console. One game I'm sure is limited is halo. because the 4gig model has no hard drive you are unable to play co-op campaign or firefight. Also you will have to get a pen drive or external USB hard drive if you want to install DLC content.

I might get one of these then, instead of one of the older ones.

[editline]14th November 2010[/editline] You just have to be wary of the limitations sometimes when it comes to playing online with certain games.

Also does anyone know a good cheap store for thing like this that ships to the UK?

The new one has wireless internet which saves you £60 on a dongle, it has 5 USB ports and is kinect-ready. They have also fixed alot of the overheating problems.
Alright, so the purchasing list for me is: XBOX 360 Slim 4GB VGA cable Call of Duty: BLOPS and some other games A headset of some sort Could somebody suggest a headset, too? [editline]14th November 2010[/editline] (under £50)
Hard to imagine, but BLOPS actually has performance issues on the 360 for some.

Oh also if you're getting BLOPS seperate from the 360, I think GAME still have an offer on where BLOPS is something like £27 when bought with another game such as New Vegas.

More for your money than the 4gb version. I'm not too fussed about noise or size either. I'll probably go with that.
I would be too worried of that RROD'ing.
Comes with the warranty still intact, and it's gone through loads of checks to make sure everything's running fine. As far as I know, they just swap out the broken parts with brand spanking new parts and sell them back on again. The only defect you could have with one is cosmetic.
HDMI to DVI they cost about £2.
I bought the official VGA cable for my 360, and for some reason the RCA -> 3.5mm adapter that came with it gave me a 3.5mm male output. It confounded me as I have never seen any common audio playback devices that accepts male input. So I was forced to purchase a 3.5mm female to female adapter just to be able to use my headphones or speakers with the 360. My current setup is quite nice right now though, the 360 connects to the same monitor as my computer does. 360 goes into the VGA input, computer into the DVI input. A simple click of a button under my monitor switches between them.
would the hdmi to dvi cable provide better quality?
would the hdmi to dvi cable provide better quality?
My monitors resolution is at 1680x1050, there's no loss in quality. I hardly doubt I'd get any increase by using an HDMI to dvi or vga adapter instead.
would the hdmi to dvi cable provide better quality?
Not really. If any, extremely slightly.

For whatever reason, female 3.5mm to female RCA y-splitters are impossible to find, if they even make them. Slightly annoying.
No. Edit: Go out and buy a PC.
It's just to play with my friends and get stable framerates in black ops. I'm not straying away from PC gaming, I'll still play other games on here.
