In the event that it is the seemingly inevitable Fallout: New Orleans, I guess I'm excited? I'm sure it'll be amazing but y'know, it's a bit far east for my likings, and the thing I liked about Obsidian developing Fallout was that you still got to talk about the NCR and the Mariposa Super Mutants and Necropolis Ghouls and all that stuff
unless they expand the NCR to Louisiana, then Bethesda's gonna have a real hard time ignoring the NCR :v:
Wheres my fucking World of Darkness game, Obsidian?
It is related to Pillars of Eternity

If Bethesda would allow Obsidian to make another Fallout I would be SO happy.
That pipe sure looks LOTR-like
One day we'll get another Fallout by Obsidian
Farming simulator that's actually hiding Cthulhuian horrors and the longer you play the game, the more you uncover. But at what cost?
I was secretly hoping for Point Lookout 2: Nuclear Boogaloo.

Wrong development company

god damnit
A shame. I really like Obsidian but isometric RPGs bore me to tears.
I don't understand why Bethesda doesn't just let them make another Fallout.

Because it was "bad" by their standards.
Possibly because whenever people mention FO3 its treated like cancer and within several moments, "You should play FNV" comes up. I for one wouldn't want to be shown up in my own IP again.

Obsidian got shafted throughout that whole deal. Think its less Bethesda holding the cards and more Obsidian had a bad experience that doesn't need to be repeated.

It has nothing to do with either because both companies have said theres no animosity between them and Obsidian is open to another game.

The guys at Obsidian have made it very clear that they would LOVE to make another Fallout game, and that it's entirely up to Bethesda.
With the rather lukewarm reception that Fallout 4 received (sales aside), I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda is being cautious about the IP right now. I'm sure they could just let Obsidian have another go with it, but if it doesn't come out to be all that great either, then that's 2 potential blemishes with Bethesda owning the franchise.
Obsidian is definitely down to do another (even Chris Avellone, who isn't with Obsidian anymore, said he'd gladly join up again to work on another Fallout), and they both have no ill will towards one another, so it's mostly down to Bethesda.

Indeed, it's important to remember who Obsidian are.
Obsidian are formed in large part by former members of Black Isle, an in-house company of Interplay. Interplay created the original Fallout IP, and Black Isle developed Fallout 2. The rights to Fallout were purchased by Bethesda when Black Isle went under - about the same time that those developers jumped ship from Black Isle and formed Obsidian.
So of course Obsidian would be more than eager to jump back aboard the Fallout IP - it is their baby, after all.

It sold a fuckton. They're far from cautious right now.

Idk man, officially yeah but obsidian did get shafted pretty bad on their bonus due to dumb Metacritic standards. Fallout New Vegas seemed to have gotten less promotion too. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't want a repeat of that.
I think y'all are assuming way more behind the scenes politics than there probably really is. Especially since Bethesda has never said anything along the lines of 'We hate Obsidian cause they made a good game'. They got Obsidian to make a Fallout title in a year and got a return of 300 million fucking dollars, and that's just in 2010. Not counting sales since then. Not counting DLC sales. Not to mention it was maybe the most loved Fallout game ever by the fans. New Vegas was hardly an 'embarrassment', it was a huge financial success. What do you think they wanted, New Vegas to fail?
Bethesda is a fucking company, I sincerely doubt they're going to let dumb bullshit like "oh well they stole our thunder >:(" prevent them from making hundreds of millions of dollars. I believe it's fully possible for them to get Obsidian to make another Fallout if they want to. If I had to say what actually might be stopping Obsidian from doing it right now is that Obsidian's been kind of busy making their own games. They just put out Tyranny and if people are right, they've also been busy working on PoE 2.

Indeed, as an entity that produces content for profit, the absolutely best case scenario for whenever you hire a project out to someone else is for them to be hugely successful. The more successful, the better. Even if they're more successful than anything you ever made, it's still great, because you still get a good chunk of those profits.
If anyone were to have animosity in that relationship, it would be Obsidian. Bethesda would probably be tripping over their own feet to get Obsidian to make another project. And I think it's been well established that Obsidian very likely has no such ill will toward Bethesda, and would indeed love to make another Fallout for them.
It's a situation where everyone wins: Obsidian gets to make a game they love in an IP they love, and Bethesda gets to sit back and roll in sick quantities of dosh without having to raise a finger.

What do you think companies are in it for the MONEY?
THEY STOLE OUR THUNDER DUDE
It sold a fuckton. They're far from cautious right now.
Which is why I said "sales aside."
It might have sold well, but a lot of people weren't fans of the direction the game took.
If Obsidian ever makes another Fallout I will instantly cream my pants probably.

I didnt even know that Tyranny even existed.

It's pretty good.
Also I remember readin a forum post or something from Pete Hines wherein he said that the team (Bethesda) really liked New Vegas. who knows. Maybe after FO4 not winning any GOTY awards, Obsidian will be asked to make another.
Fallout or go pound sand. For a company that's had a hand in some of the best of western rpgs, I seem to spend a lot of time not giving a shit about what they're currently working on.
