• USB constantly failing - Most fustrating problem I have ever had

Hey guys, I play games on a laptop and a while ago I notice the generic crappy mouse I was using cutting out every now and again for about a second. It was so infrequent that I did not mind. Over time this worse and worse until I bought a G400 off of eBay. I had exactly the same problem where the mouse would cut out and it has not got to a point where my mouse only works about 20% of the time and even when it is working it still cuts out every 20 seconds or so for 1-2 seconds. Its doing my head in and I cannot game at all! I have tried updating every single driver on my pc, uninstalling usb drivers so they reinstall on bootup, I also installed the official Logitec software, had my laptop off overnight with the battery left out of it, adjusted the mouse report rate and dpi... I have the problems in both usb 2 and usb 3 drives, I also set (in device manager) the computer to NOT switch off anything usb related to save power. I am at a point where I really have no idea what else to do. This is with out a doubt the single most frustrating problem that I have occurred in the history of have a computer... Its like owning a car with no steering wheel, it can run and rev and go fast but you cannot control it!
I assume you know what owning a car with no steering wheel feels like. I don't think the power options in device manager do much, they're usually controlled by the BIOS, and laptop BIOSes can be limited. I'm interested to see whether this is a driver or hardware issue, there's only one real way to find out. Get a linux live USB/CD and see if the same problem occurs whilst running linux
G400 is meant to be pretty good too so I don't know if its the mouse itself, but test it on another computer if you can, usb 2.0 port, that is, maybe even another mouse on that laptop. don't even bother with usb 3 ports at the moment, I can't use my mice on those. also, if you really need a mouse, this is a stupidly temporary solution but heres an autohotkey script https://www.dropbox.com/s/9g85kimbatyps42/Numpad%20mouse%20control.ahk it will turn your number pad into a mouse. This should make it a little easier for the time being. at least, if it'll even work that well for a laptop.
I did not even think of making a linux disk, thanks for that suggestion. As for the script, thank you but I can still use my touchpad fine. For sure its not the mouse. I gave it to my room mate to use and he had no problems for over an hour of use. I get problems within a couple of mins... As for the car... I have a motorcycle and things like broken clutch levers or cables must feel similar ^^ Ok it now seems by not touching the DPI changing buttons and by lowering the report rate from 500 to 150 it seems stable in desktop... So I think I have fixed it and hop into a CS GO comp with some friends and have the worst match in months! So is it now just limited to games!? So I followed this artical and found this... Maybe driver clash? haha Anyhow I deleted everything other than the devices in use. Ill give you guys an update soon...
Still not working correctly. My friend used the mouse for gaming again today with no problems. As I said though it does seem to be limited just to gaming. I also ran the defrag 3 or more times, ran my virus scanner and malware scanner... Nothing was found. Because I'm on a laptop there does not seem to be anything I can really do in the BIOS, but if anyone has any thoughts PLEASE post!!! Should also add I downloaded a linux distro last night so Ill try that out today.
It's best you try Linux first just so the hardware thing can be ruled out, you don't have to install Linux, just run it off the CD/USB
Yeah I know I don't have to install it, thanks for the info anyway and ill let you guys know later!
Just saw your mouse list, it looks like the drivers are reinstalling every time the mouse connects, that's sure to cause issues, you should remove all the inactive ones, and the logitech and HID-compliant should definitely not be both active at the same time
Yeah I removed everything and started from fresh, still no fix though. I thought exactly the same as you. Linux disk is not wanting to boot and I have fancied checking out steam OS for quite a while so I might as well get it a go at the same time.
