Okay, so about 1.5 hours ago I spilled milk on my laptop. I immediately unplugged the power and battery, and let it dry. Just now, I turned it on and everything worked fine. Everything worked. So then I got a call from my friend and I went outisde to talk for like 10 minutes, and when I came in there was a black screen that said the Operating System was not found, like a DOS prompt. I tried restarting and the same screen came out.
I'm downloading slax as we speak and I'm going to try to boot off of that off of a USB. What the fuck happened? What can I do to save my computer?
Take out your HDD and put it in another computer.
how will that help? and how would i go about doing it?
only experience i had was one time my friend's friend came over and he installed a new HDD in, and it was like hella fast and I didn't understand what he was doing, all i remember is that i had to ground myself or something so that the thing wouldnt die
Turn your laptop upside down. Unscrew the cover for HDD. Simple as.
Some dumbshit in the Apple forum dropped his iPhone into a glass of milk, then proceeded to bake his iphone at a mind-blowing 425 degrees, where the screen would have melted, and the battery could have exploded.
Now we have milk in a laptop... WHAT THE GOD DAMN CHRIST..!?
What part of "No food or drink around the computer" don't you understand? I have that rule in my house for a reason, so dip-shits coming over don't damage my hardware. Perhaps the OP should live by this rule as well.
Now, as for a solution to the problem, take out the harddrive from the laptop and stick it into a desktop PC. Hopefully you can save any important files. If the harddrive is in perfect health, then I suggest you back up your data and reinstall your operating system. If you can't fix what you broke, then I'd say justice was served.

Someone should put a automatic wall between your laptop & food, If you have food the wall wouldnt open.
I'm sorry to day this and not contribute anything, but YOU FUCKING DUMB-ASS DON'T EAT/DRINK NEAR A COMPUTER.

Kinda stupid, don't you think? To eat and drink, while on the computer.
Did you know that it was very stupid of you to turn it on after you spilled? You may have short-circuited some of the electronics, the best thing you could've done was to let all the milk vaporize, instead of turning it on.
Seriously, do you drink milk? I don't, and none of my friends do neither.
Take your hard drive out, put it in a other computer to test if it still works, if it doesnt...get a new HDD.

My guess is, you spilled milk on your laptop?

:hf: Let's make fun of his idiocy :hf:

That's what I said to my mom too.
Every laptop I have owned has had a drink through it. All of them have survived with relatively little damage.
My dell studio had a full cup of very sugary coffee through it after 3 days of owning it. Some keys got sticky but all survived. A few weeks later I stripped the whole thing down and gave it a deep clean.
My Packard bell had a can of coke through it, the fan controller went fizz so I hotwired the fan to USB port power. Keys were pretty much fucked before I got the WD40 at them.
My advent had a cup of tea through it, not one thing broke. all just dripped out the corner.
My Acer Aspire one had a close shave with some wine.
I don't exactly have great luck from a liquid laptop point of view :/
The key is get the thing turned off and put it on it's side so the liquid will drip AWAY from the bulk of the electronics, if this means it's going to head for the HDD and CD, take them out. Download the service manual for your laptop and get the thing taken apart and use Q-tips soaked in isopropyl alcohol if it was a sticky liquid.
If the liquid has got through the HDDs vent hole and infested it, it's fucked.
I have a waterproof keyboard, it comes in handy if something(:smug:) gets spilled on it.
If you have an OEM version of Windows (it came pre-installed), Windows WONT let you just stick your hard drive into another computer. The Windows installation is locked to that hardware, and that hardware only. (You can upgrade your computer yes, but a whole disk swap just wont work)
If you have a retail version of Windows, stick it in another computer and try to boot.
If you have an OEM version, I would boot into an Ubuntu Live CD(or your favorite linux flavor) run a check on the hard drive. If everything checks out, move any important files off of the computer, and format it. If you get an error in the disk check, your hard drive is dead.
(Edited for retardation.)

You are wrong. I've done it plenty of times.

Someone clearly doesn't seem to have passed reading comprehension, I left it in there at 140 degrees Celsius, not near 500. Even a simpleton such as yourself would know that isn't good.
Go back to the Linux forum, you don't quite seem ready to merge with the general population.

FYI that's OEM
FYI that's OEM
Wow, I've been working with too many OEM computers lately. Sometimes I forget the differences between OEM and retail. >.>
Thank you for giving me a logical reason for why I'm wrong.
I have edited my above post accordingly.

...Like bong water.
So what's the latest progress on the laptop's condition?
how will that help? and how would i go about doing it?

When I saw that I facepalmed, hit my nose and now I'm in pain :frown:
Uhhh... thanks for insulting me, guys? I let it dry overnight and it fixed itself.
But seriously thanks to whoever actually tried to help.
