my budget is $500 and i need a hackintosh to edit my home movies of my family
Sony Vegas for your normal PC.
Save money and don't get a hackintosh goddamnit. You don't need a hackintosh for editing movies.

Do you already own Final Cut? If not, just get Vegas. This idea that "lul macs bettr editing :downs:" is really driving me crazy.
Macs just feel more smooth because theres nothing running on them. Why?
Cause theres literally nothing for the Mac that I can't get on my PC and run just as well, if not better. (Minus the $2,000 price tag.)
Don't believe the people that say "hurr macs are better fur createive stuff durr"
Theyre computer illiterates who don't understand the concept of software.

do you really think that a kiddie program like vegas can compare to final cut pro (the industry standard)? james rolfe himself has stated that final cut pro is simply the best and most cost-effective option. mac pros are incredibly cheap for the movie industry as opposed to PC counterparts that are of the same calibre/effectiveness. a decent hackintosh should accomplish this task best for me and im wondering what parts i should use in it.
if you are uninformed of the benefits of using mac os x then please do not feed me your childish immature opinions.
You're really a bad poster, that wasn't the question.
oh looks it's neil_purt again, the most mature user to ever set foot on the internet
time to start counting, because everyone knows people who are actually mature need to constantly remind everyone that they are kids and they're talking to someone mature
do us a favour and get banned quickly this time, ok

if youre frustrated with my act of simply pointing out the truth then you may cease from posting in this thread of mine until you are ready make constructive recommendations on what parts i should buy for my hackintosh.
umm, I believe the industry standard for movie editing(or at least rendering) is some program on linux, not some program on osx, or windows.
you believe, or you know? try providing concrete backing to your statements before concluding your posts.
everything is good for something, macs are good for symplicity, which you wouldn't need if you know how to build/install a hackintosh and you might as well use windows with vegas pro or linux with a editing program I forgot the name of.
AND, hackintosh is limited on drivers, while linux and windows aren't.
your best bet is just building a pc and installing windows/linux on it.
i much prefer mac os x over any other operating system for its great simplicity, accessibility, seamless integration with creative/artistic development programs, and an overall higher reliability and stability than its competitors. i am not here to listen to you try and convince me otherwhise. mac os x is my preferred OS, end of discussion.
i am a professional internet user meaning i am resourceful enough to acquire the necessary drivers for my future hackintosh, that is not an issue here. and again, vegas is NOT a viable alternative to final cut pro.
if facepunch is unable to recommend me sufficient parts and instead continues to attempt to convince me to choose alternative (windows-biased) routes then i will be able to conclude firmly that facepunch is no more than a biased and immature collective of inexperienced minors.

perhaps you dont understand anything about os x in general. it is much more optimized for adobe products and i dont believe final cut pro is available on any other OS other than mac.
Looks out guys, he's a professional internet user.

again, might i add final cut pro is going to be my preferred/primary program. i am not a gamer, as i am no longer a child. as stated in my previous reply, adobe's line of software is much more optimized for mac as i intend to use those as well.

Who gives a fuck about the movie industry when all you want to do is edit videos of your family?
Just get a windows alternative.

my home movies are not for sale. im sorry if you were interested in buying them.
He IS a professional internet user after all, he can make invisible text responses!
This makes no sense now, as he edited his post.

mind you i would like to make quality videos of my family. i have a very high end video camera (industry-grade) and i would like to make these memories as enhanced and enjoyable as possible.
the only windows alternative i could think of is avid and we all know how much of a let down that program is.

What features are you even going to use in FCP that isn't in Vegas?

I'm guessing you are one of those guys who have more money than sense.
Getting a new machine for hackintosh rather than getting a windows video editor is very dumb and it's evidentially obvious that you won't get any straight answers here so your best bet is to ask some where else or do some research.
What features are you even going to use in FCP that isn't in Vegas?
im not here to discuss why final cut pro is way above vegas. that is research you can accomplish for yourself on your own time.

What? Final cut pro? Yes I saw.
It's still dumb to get a completely new computer for one programme.

No we aren't, but what we do most of the time in this section, is trying to make people use the smallest amount of money possible. I don't see why it's necessary to get a whole new build, and therefore we're discussing this. Enlighten me now, please, of the benefits in FCP over Vegas.
And nobody is going to help you shit before you answer that properly.

find out for yourself idiot
tell me what professional movie production studio uses vegas?
dunno but from the link you posted Vegas seems to be a better alternative

maybe if youre not interested in making professional-tier videos, then sure
editing 'home movies of my family' doesn't exactly sound like professional-tier to me
wow, so many things wrong here...
-GPU Acceleration on both OSX and Windows version of Adobe CS5 products
-I don't see how editing home movies requires more "integration" with the OS, double clicking it to open the video editor is as much integration as you need
-A large portion of Hollywood movies are actually edited on Linux because it's open, free, and will work on both their renderfarms and their desktops.
-Hackintoshes generally require a lot of browsing obscure websites to find kexts for your specific system, which is a massive waste of time. Either buy a mac or a video editor for Windows, there's no need to spend a lot of time getting a PC to act like a Mac, if you're serious about editing, you'll pick one or the other.
-since when are home videos "professional-tier"? (A good camera =/= professional)
-programs are optimized for the platform architecture. You MAY have an argument if Macs were still running on PPC processors, but since both are now on x86, all the x86 optimizations are present on both.
if you're making home movies and by home movies i mean shitty school projects just use wmm
but if you want a hackintosh just build a regular computer with an intel processor and look it up
Try to stick with intel processors in the core i3/i5/i7 line because it makes the process a lot easier and requires less tweaking. Using any of these motherboards:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=6214
would help because iBoot+Multibeast supports them almost entirely and you shouldn't have a problem finding kexts for the different parts.
Stay away from sandy bridge intel processors because they aren't fully supported yet and might not be for a while.
Use Nvidia graphics because there is a wider range of support for them than ATI, and lots of methods to get them to work automatically.
Don't get more than 4gb of ram, it won't work.
Try to install using the iBoot+Multibeast EFI partition method because it's the cleanest form of installation and lets you easily tweak things.

im making quality home movies of my family and i. this isnt your shitty wmm garbage. this is the real deal. im entering it in a local film festival. all that needs done is professional editing on my end.

funny, i received the same speech from this one guy on OCforum and it turns out he was just a troll reciting the usual windows-biased propaganda (unfounded, unbacked, and unreliable). wouldnt be surprised if youre the same guy.
are people still taking this thread seriously? it's neil_purt, the only reason he made this thread was so he could start shit
because that is what mature people do
