HP COMPAQ 615 NOTEBOOK PC
SPS-BD SYSTEM UMA
So, my dads computer is back from the shop and they have diagnosed a problem with POST, it doesn't work properly and the base/motherboard is defektiv.
Could anyone help me get info on this problem and does it really cost about 300-370$ to fix ?
$370 is just extortion. They either charge that much for the labor or because they deal directly with HP and have to pay the ridiculous markup that HP charges for parts.
You can get much cheaper parts on Ebay. I found this when looking up your laptop model, but it might be the wrong one.

You need to match the exact laptop model on the bottom of the laptop because even laptops with the same model moniker can have slight differences.
The only issue with ordering the parts yourself is that you always have the possibility of getting the wrong part or another bad part. You also have to install the part yourself, which is a pain in the ass when it comes to laptops.
You can find it lots of places. Just Google the part number HP 538391-001 Motherboard. I looked at a few and the eBay one above is the best deal that I saw as it has free shipping.
