• Wanting to build my own PC, have no idea where to start.

So, up until recently I was planning on buying a "gaming laptop" until one day a ray of knowledge burst through my room and enlightened me. From that day, I have wanted, instead, to build my own PC. Then I realized that I have no idea what in the world I'm doing. I mean, I know what all parts I need, but I don't know what brands are best, what types of each, or anything like that. Money isn't an issue because this summer I'll get $300/week. So, what's parts do Facepunch recommend? After I get some suggestions I'll look into it and see if it's all good.
We can help you with the parts. We just can't help you build it. But this can: www.pcityourself.com [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] If you don't have a budget tell us what games you want to play, at what resolution, if you need a monitor, etc.

Basically I want to be able to play recent games (Like Bulletstorm, Crysis 2 [oh how I'd love to play Crysis 2]), probably on a higher resolution like 1920x1200. Yeah, I'm gonna need a monitor, I basically need all peripherals. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] I'm starting completely from scratch.
I'd say budget about $1000-1200 (maybe even more), considering you need all those peripherals.
Do you want a 3D monitor and nVidia 3D Vision glasses? [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] How big do you want your monitor to be? And you should pick out a case from newegg.com [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] How big do you want your hard drive to be? And i'm assuming you need an OS, correct? [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] Are you going to overclock? (sorry for so many questions lol)

I'd be good with a 1TB hard drive Yes I need an OS. Probably not going to overclock since I don't even know how to :v:
wait until you have the money, make a thread a week before at max in 6 months time any build we make now will be completely out of date
Here's what I got so far: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=13528611
why are you bothering and you make terrible builds
why are you bothering and you make terrible builds
Why?
in 6 months time any build we make now will be completely out of date
Well I may be able to get $1000 in the next month and if that happens, I'd like to start my shopping as soon as possible so that I know where I stand. I realize that my hardware may soon be surpassed but that's fine with me as long as it's still really good hardware.

So you're saying that my builds suck because they may not be outdated now, but they will be in 6 months. That really makes no sense.
triple post errrr
Triple/double post?
Triple/double post?
Facepunch gave me a bad gateway error and I thought that my post didn't go through, so I went back then went back to the error page, refreshed it, then hit the back button again, the foward and refreshed again. Or something like that. :D
So you're saying that my builds suck because they may not be outdated now, but they will be in 6 months. That really makes no sense.
no I'm saying your builds suck because you put a 2500 and H67 in a high end build, as well as seagate HDD and coolermaster PSU [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] I mean there's a PCP&C for $10 more that has more on the 12V rail and you still went for coolermaster, what is wrong with you
no I'm saying your builds suck because you put a 2500 and H67 in a high end build, as well as seagate HDD and coolermaster PSU [editline]7th March 2011[/editline] I mean there's a PCP&C for $10 more that has more on the 12V rail and you still went for coolermaster, what is wrong with you
Why is it bad to put a 2500 in a high end build? Oh, and sorry, I don't really understand everything about PSUs and a lot of things about these computer parts. I was just trying to help. And if you don;t think that what I have posted makes sense, you can always suggest a better part so I learn what I did wrong.
because a 2500k and P67 can be overclocked and again there's no point because there will be new parts at new prices in 5-7 months time
because a 2500k and P67 can be overclocked and again there's no point because there will be new parts at new prices in 5-7 months time
Could you list the parts that you disagree with and your own personal suggestion?
I will when you're ready to buy until then this is a pointless thread
I will when you're ready to buy until then this is a pointless thread
You should just list them so that he can think about it and ask questions, and when the time comes to buy, we can figure what needs to be upgraded.
or we could just wait for bulldozer, 590, 6990, price changes as a result of these and any other new stuff coming 6 months is a long time where components are concerned
seriously listen to reapaninja. theres no point in planning out what you're buying more than a week in advance.
Go ahead and get Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64-bit OEM since you don't have a budget anyways. Plus, it has Windows XP mode which allows you to play older games/apps on a computer without having to have two OS's. I'd get a 1920 x 1080 monitor too since that's 1080i. That's just my preference though.
