Honestly, I found the amount of variations on the 3ds extremely jarring. There are so many version now that it's rather confusing, especially for parents or players that are perhaps not that familar with the systems. It's just a clusterfuck.
There are six varities now? They should send the old ones out to pasture at some point.
So this is a re-release but without the 3D?

ugh "new 3ds" is such a bad name. i was trying to tell my brother about the "new 2ds" the other day and he was like they already released the 2ds.
