To be fair, it wasn't connected to Twitch and by extension, youtube
Gmail is great too. So are a lot of stuff. But I legit imagine people getting hit with automated copyright strikes on video calls :v:
and because it was XMPP you could freely move between custom clients if the gtalk UI wasn't for you

I wish that twitch would just fix their damn video player already, compared to youtube's live video player, twitch's video player is awful and should be their number one priority instead of all the meaningless decisions they've been making over the past few years with all the pointless features added to their service
I don't quite see this as becoming a competitor to Discord considering that 99% of the chatting in Twitch is just emotes + "kek". Although usually competition is better for the consumer

Their video player constantly freezing, crashing ,and crashing my browser are why I only watch through the Twitch app on my phone or using streamlink with media player classic.

Wouldn't be surprised. Most desktop "apps" nowadays seem to just throw a resource sucking web wrapper around their website. What happened to using a native UI library that didn't suck up all of your RAM and CPU?
I mean, people are gonna use what they use. I'm sure for big streamers that don't already use discord will jump on this.
i cant even have twitch player open and chat in the same window like its normally supposed to be, the video freezes up and chrome becomes completely unresponsive. only works properly if i open the player in a new window/tab completely on its own

very unfortunate that the most popular webapp-to-desktop framework is based off chromium, which is really scary to look at performance-wise.
like to be honest I use a lot of chromium-based apps, but look at this shit

But to answer your question, this is the "answer" to people who only know the Javascript-HTML-CSS way to making applications. For example, if I really had to, I would probably have a much easier time making an application with Electron just because I don't know enough C++ to do it natively.

Creating native C# apps really isn't a problem, even for beginners. Discord insists on maintaining both a desktop app and a web app with development parity. Hence the need/convenience for Electron. At this point there's nothing else to say, too many people use the web app and the app itself is really just too far into development to go back on it all now anyways.

The problem of creating native C# apps is the UX. As far as I'm aware, you can't have the same customization that CSS offers, in C#. WinForms is a bit tricky to get custom controls done and WPF seems to be the way to go, but I haven't used it much so I can't say anything about it.
