So my friend and I built a computer for him, and whenever we turn it on it gives the error stated in the title. We've tried everything we can think of, and nothing has worked. The boot order is set to: 1.cdrom 2.hdd 3.cdrom No bios changes have done anything as of yet, and we've also changed the jumpers on the DVD drive to every possible setting. The specs are as follows: Gigabyte EP43-UD3L motherboard Intel e7400 1tb hitachi hdd (sata) 4gb ocz 1066 ram Sapphire HD 4850 1gb LG DVD drive (IDE) So, facepunch, what say you? Can you help?
did you try doing what it said?
Yeah sorry forgot to say that, we've booted it with both 32 and 64 bit vista ultimate in the drive.

I only have an "express recovery2" option, which is not installed. When I try to install it with the included disk, I get the same error.

We can't install the os, that's what we've been trying to do, but we can't because of the error.
We can't install the os, that's what we've been trying to do, but we can't because of the error.
yeah you have to put the disk in the drive, shut down, then press f8 or f12 to select boot option and choose CD/DVD
We tried that, it gives us the same error.
uhh put it in then when it asks you the drive to install vista on format the drive first
What? We can't even get to the vista install screen.
is his DVD hooked up properly
Yes. We also tried one of my old drives, which I know is not faulty, and it still gave us the same error.
And he is pressing F8 to choose what to boot from?
F12 (boot selection). We chose CDROM and it gave us the error.
did he burn the ISO properly
It's the retail install disk
It's the retail install disk
jsut checking, uhhh if he is selecting DVD drive with the disk in it, and bootdisk failure is happening it sounds like the HDD is bad
I guess it could be a possibility, it shows up in the bios but I'll take a spare HDD and sata DVD drive over there tomorrow to test them. Thanks.
you said there's two CDRM drives in the first post, are u sure you arent mixing the order of them?
you said there's two CDRM drives in the first post, are u sure you arent mixing the order of them?
No, we only used one at a time. We removed the first one and tried a second one to see if the first one was faulty.

I had this problem 2 days ago with a built PC. Change your HDD sata port to a different one on your motherboard.
are you using a cdrom drive for a dvd?
