Screen goes black and repeats last millisecond of sound.

At first I thought this was an error restricted to Assassin's Creed, because that's when it started. Basically the game would freeze for a few seconds, and then the screen would go pitch black (even the backlighting would go off), and the last millisecond of sound would loop. The computer would stay there, not turning off, and not giving any error messages when I booted it back up.
I gave up on Assassin's Creed, and I was today linked to a video by a friend. After hitting "CTRL+V" to paste the URL, the same thing happened. It froze for a few seconds, screen went pitch black, and the music I had playing looped the last millisecond. Shutting it off gave no message, and when I was logged in I didn't get a message.
The only "message" I get of any kind is the "What mode do you want to start Windows in", which you always get when you turn it off on the power-button.
So what could this be? I'm afraid my computer is about to kick the bucket. It IS a laptop, after all.

"Agree"? Well that's helpful.
Have you recently attempted to update your graphics drivers? That may be the issue, to test this, you can open the run dialog box, type devmgmt.msc, right click on your video card, hit properties, and click on rollback driver. Then attempt to recreate the crash. If this fixes the problem, the drivers you were using were either incorrect, or corrupt.
Dowload HW monitor and Furmark and run furmkark for 10 minutes with HW monitor open.
Post results.

Well, a week or two before I got Assassin's Creed, Steam told me there was a graphics driver availible...

As much as I wish that WAS the solution, it wasn't. I got to the city ports, and then it crashed.
On the plusside, reverting the drivers seems to have increased my framerate by the double. Before I would stutter like crazy even on low settings (which also confused me), but now I'm back at medium/high and it works.
I'll try taipans way and report back in a few minutes

4 minutes in the card was showing 85C, Processor was at 75/75.
10 minutes in the card was showing 87C, Processor was 71/76.
I noticed something during the stresstest. The fan speed was at constant 0%.
So either my card doesn't have a fan, or it's broken/clogged?

Those temps would be way higher if the fan was broken.
Furmark probably only reads PC fan RPM, not laptop.
Temps are fine btw.
