I think my Asus P5NE-SLI motherboard is dying and I need to know if there is a good alternative motherboard that is cheap I can get.

If I wasn't going to be using it in the near future for a school project, I would have gladly offered to sell you my old ASRock 4CoreDualVSTA board for pretty cheap. Only gripe I have with it is that the memory maxes out to 2GBs (which is alright but you may want to upgrade to more as time goes by). It still runs great, had it for about 5 years almost, smoke free house, and plays TF2 like a champ.

If you can find one on Ebay, they are only like $25 at the very least and some come with free shipping.
