I bought my XFX Radeon HD 5770 for about 6 months ago, now, i sold it to a friend.
It's been working just fine, until now, two days after he gets it, his computer won't power up.
So i went to his house and took the computer back to my place to see what is wrong it it, apparently when i removed the 5770 it would start up just fine, but when it's plugged in, the computer won't start at all.
Thought it maybe was the PSU or something, so i changed it but it still didn't work (550w).
So i tried the 5770 in my computer, then my computer wouldn't start, so then i figured it was the graphics card.
But since it was working fine before, i thought how the hell could it break, i asked my friend, and apparently he had UNDERclocked it (don't ask me why), and was playing for a few hours, next day the computer didn't start.
He had apparently underclocked the memory 125mhz and the core 25mhz.
Now it won't work, any suggestions on what it could be, is it really just because he underclocked it?
Does the card get the extra +12v from the PSU?
Also, detach and put back on the CMOS/BIOS battery from the mobo so that the clock speeds go to default.
Yes, and yes i've done that.
I've even tried it in another computer where i haven't over/under clocked it, still didn't work.
We need to know more about the specs of your friends computer.

It could also be so simple that the card just got busted at some point. Nobodys fault neccessarily.
Take out all compontents, blow away the dust, then put them all back and try again.
Static shock while taking it out/putting it back in?
I underclocked an HD2600 Pro (AGP version) significantly to get it work without a fan. One thing I noticed - going below 100MHz core or memory clocks = instant crash.
Not sure if permanent damage is possible, but you never know.
have you tried turning it off and on again?
