Ok here is the deal. I am 16 years old. Whenever me and my father go to the local recycling center, I check the "wire pile" for "broken" computers that people have thrown out. If there are any there, I take them and bring them home. I then proceed to fix them and if they are any good, I keep them. None have been quite as good as they need to be to keep though.
But I believe I have found one. I found it as just a motherboard with a processor sitting on top of the pile. It has sat in my closet for a month before I finally put it in an empty computer case. So I have it all hooked up and it turns on and everything. But the problem is, the port for the video cable. ( I am not sure of the correct term. I think its the VGA port) basically th problem is that there is no where to plug that in. BUT there is a slot on the motherboard for a GPU. ( graphics card. :P) but if I put a gpu in there and hook it up and everything, and turn it on, the screen stays blank. The computer does not beep or anything. Thanks.
(PS sorry for length and spelling errors. Typing this on my iPod touch. Thanks!)
If you dont have drivers it should still start fine. And windows uses the standard driver untill you install the correct ones. Some 'older' motherboards have a switch on the mother board to enable the onboard gpu
This motherboard is not too old I don't think. It has a Dual bios and there is a lot of logos for Dual Gigabit.
You need drivers for the hardware to communicate with the operating system and software.
Also since it was in the garbage pile im willing to bet it doesn't work.
There is no operating system from what I can. especially since NOTHING IS APPEARING ON THE SCREEN.
If you found in in a garbage pile and it doesn't boot there's a pretty good chance that its dead. You could try resetting the CMOS and double checking there is a system speaker so you can hear the beeps. What model of motherboard is it?
Well I would reset the cmos but the prongs needed to reset it, have not been put on it. the spot where they should be and where is says reset cmos, is empty.

You just need to get those two prongs connected then, got a screwdriver or a bit of wire? Put something conductive across them.
