Hello Forum, I wonder what Gmod performance increase will i get if i buy Intel i7 4930 ? Planned buys for replacing my old parts: CPU: http://www.stealtech.org/cpu/INTEL_I7-4930K_3_4G_12M_BOX_2011_id42294/ MB : http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4766&dl=#ov CL :http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=productview&products_id=63&lng=en&set=1 The i7 vs My CPU: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-4930K-vs-AMD-Phenom-II-X6-Black-1090T Price: 1653.81 BGN ( Bulgarian Levs ) = 1131.91 UDS ( Dollars ) GPU: Sapphire Radeon 7870 XT 2GB Ghz Ed. Dual X P.S. I am not going to oveclock ( I never do ), besides i will take advantage of my 32GB predators ...
Uhh what GPU do you have?c [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] That's a huuuuuuuge waste of money for just Gmod. Get an i5 and a 780 and you'll be good for the next 5 years.
The 7870. And i5 No I want i7 :D money does not matter xD Planing 4 GB Videocard soon ( Sapphire maybe Never failed me trough the years ... ) Can u suggest a good 4GB VDC for me, this is a quite good option :) http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1227&pid=2294&psn=&lid=1&leg=0

I use it not only for Gmod thought. 1. Video processing 2. Database Structures 3. Programming as is 4. Realtime Code enviornments 5. Matlab 6. Enbedded programming 7. Watching Bluerays 8. Multithreaded applications Besides in CPU world i saw "Physics processing" 2.2 * Phenom 1090T Any of those i think will do: http://ark.intel.com/products/family/79318/Intel-High-End-Desktop-Processors#@Desktop As long as its More resent model DDR3-1866, 4-Ch Memory and i7 Also Why NVidia ???? [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] i5 : http://ark.intel.com/products/80807/Intel-Core-i7-4790K-Processor-8M-Cache-up-to-4_40-GHz What's the point of using i5, Guess better staying with the 1090T.... Why do u think that 7870 bottlenecks so much.. its actually the same card as R9 270X ...
previous message
The Phenom is rather slow and tbh, with an I7 you're mainly paying for the name (sort of like buying an alienware, its good but more expensive than it should need to be) I'd recommend going for a 4670k with a decent cpu cooler, and if you need extra power then just overclock, it will work out to be cheaper. As far as Gmod goes, my friend has an I3 2100 and a gtx 750 ti and has maxed graphics 1080p at 300 fps so the cpu isn't a huge issue. Personally I'm no expert but just my opinions on the matter and i'd say to wait for more opinions before spending ludicrous money on upgrading.
what kind of programmer doesnt know what parts to get gmod doesnt require a very powerful rig pal!
My 8400 gs / pentium 1.7Ghz test rig isn't happy playing gmod at 1080p but its like 10 years old by now :P It has a whopping 20Gb of storage space!
i5-4690k is all you need. For programming you think that will be resource intensive? It isn't, at all... Save your money, wasting is dumb, not cool.
The IPC of the 4690k is far above that of the Phenom, so there would be a large increase in performance. More cores does not mean more performance. If you want an i7, go for the consumer 4790k and get a top level GPU. Yours is the same as the r9 270, but that can't even max out games at 1080p [editline]7th August 2014[/editline] Or actually a 4790 because buying a k model and z board and not overclocking is a waste and should be punishable by something cruel
p4 3.3 extreme ht master race and this post isnt meant to dumb you down or be a troll or anything, you have a 6 core you should learn to use it and that thing can multi task really well.
I learned to sqeeze the max out of it trust me (Realtime float vector multiplications in C++). As for the i7, you know that pooh says: "As much that much !" xD If I get i7 I am going to pair it with http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4766#sp [editline]11th August 2014[/editline]
Yours is the same as the r9 270, but that can't even max out games at 1080p
Have you even ever had HD7870 ... I play almost everything on 1920x1200 .... ( except Gmod that is, because I script for it ) As for the CPU seems promising ... I wonder how fast is this gonging to convert my videos ???? Still its DDR3 1600 Dual channel and has Intel HD Video, which I will not indeed use ... http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-4790K-vs-AMD-Phenom-II-X6-Black-1090T I guess i should better wait to see what happens next year.. ( I hope that AMD are going to make 8 Core ( real ) with DDR3 1866 ) Quad channel is nice because of the position of the RAM PCBs ( 2 on the left and 2 in the right as looking towards the CPU ) for better cooling. And also I can fit bigger CPU coolers in my CM690 III. I currently got 4 Predators (32 gigs) and the heatsinks are quite big . Current Rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/dvd_video123/saved/Y2Nv6h Keep in mind that parts in Bulgaria are not like in US they are always a bit high or not found in the market.
Why come in for help when you disagree with everyone's advise? It sounds like you know what you want and apparently money doesn't matter. So just do what you feel happy with.

I think I have to wait Kiwi is right, my 1090T Black still does decent job :) Those are tough years for AMD 220 Watts for a CPU .... I guess there is no need to rush here 10x forum Marking as Solved !
