Is there something godawful that comes with using USB headsets?
headsets are to be avoided in general
Buy headphones then get a separate Microphone, you'll have a much better time.
This is a good headset
Even though I use the stereo version of this, don't touch usb plantronics by a mile, stick to their actual audio jack sets, the quality is so much better.
I've had two of these headsets, they're absolutely solid, fabric ear covers are comfortable, sounds is great (as far as I can tell as a non-audiophile), and mic isn't terrible either, a little sensitive but usable.
The only problem I have with them is the plastic they use to insulate the cable is pretty solid so any kinks from packing are almost impossible to straighten. My last set died after 3 years of use down to a loose connection in the middle of the wire, after being constantly ran over with the wheels on my chair.
Overall though, a steal at $25, if you're in need of a headset fucking grab one.

Reading the comments, people are saying these are shit because they've had the headband snap. Speaking as somebody with a head like a naval mine, I don't see how it's possible unless they're fucking jumping on them every day. I've had a Plantronics 777 snap on me, but that's an older model with a totally inflexible full plastic headband. The 788's headphones are attached by adjustable metal fixings at the ears and are never going to snap unless you take a bloody plasma cutter to them.
