Hi guys, this will be the first time I put a build together so would just like a bit of help with the parts please.
CPU: Intel i5 - 3470 3.2GHz
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77
Memory: Corsair 1x4GB DDR3 1600MHz Vengeance
PSU: Corsair CX430
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 3.5 inch 500GB
Case: CiT Vantage Typre-R Gaming Case
A few things to note:
- I haven't listed a GPU as I won't have money for one till next month.
- I've done research and these parts seem to be ok together, would just prefer to have some extra opinions
- I will be getting an SSD to complement the HDD, but again that will be waiting till next month (I will most likely get the Samsung 840 series)
- I will be getting an extra stick of RAM at some point
- I will also be getting a DVD drive
So far this comes to just about £400. Any advice you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.
Go with haswell and an H87 chipset motherboard (or save up for a i5-4670k and a Z87 motherboard). Having only 4 GB of RAM is taking a bit of a risk. I wouldn't do it if I were you because of how on the low side that really is; get 8 GB. That PSU is really on the low side. I can't really recommend any wattage, because I have no idea what video card you are getting. As far as the SSD go for an 840 pro series 128 GB.
I'm too lazy to convert to USD, so fuck me if I'm wrong. But any serious gaming and you'll need 8 GB of ram. Also I personally recommend the BitFenix Shinobi for a great budget case. I doubt that PSU will have enough wattage: I've got an i5-3330 and a Radeon 6770 and it consumes about 400W. Get the Corsair CX500; I have one, no regrets.

there's no way in hell you're drawing anywhere near that much, but it's always better to have more headroom so the cx500 would be better here. the bitfenix shinobi is a good case but it's also like $70 and I can't imagine it being priced much better in the UK, so he should stick to an actual budget case like an NZXT Source 210.
Thanks guys, much appreciated. High-end gaming isn't really going to be my priority on it (hence why I'll be getting a GPU at a later date). But what you've said with regards to the power supply and RAM more than makes sense.
One question I have though is do these parts look like they'll fit ok? As in is the case I've selected (or the ones you guys have suggested) suitable for the parts I've chosen?
Thanks again.
