I won't be buying it, Windows 7 is too good
$40? fucking steal
I was told that the release date a few months ago was September, but it was no way going to be finished by then. At least they have a month to fix some of the bugs.
I won't be buying it, Windows 7 is too good
Have you even used 8?
Right after my birthday. Well, I know what I'll be buying for Christmas!
At 40 bucks, there's very little reason not to get this. I am, however, a little sore over the removal of the star button, along with the legacy code that allows for it.

I haven't tried it since that first preview they released late last year, I'll give the Release Preview a go I guess
God I hate my birthday.
I gave Windows 8 a go on a program that's like a VirtualOS It's good but i'm not going to get it right when Windows 8 releases.
I hear so many people getting read to buy this but I can't find any reason to buy this. What does Windows 8 have that makes it better than Windows 7?
God I hate my birthday.
Your birthday is October 26th? On that day I will post a surprise on your profile page
I won't be buying it, Windows 7 is too good
won't be buying windows at all :v:

You keep your OS updated always being ready for newest technology. Security is obviously always increased. There are probably loads of very interest-related changes, like how .ISO images is natively supported from what I remember hearing. There is only one thing could really stop anyone from upgrading and that is the Start Screen. Which is really just a matter of getting used to it. And if you can't get used to it there will obviously be community mods for it bringing the Start Menu back, and in worst case just go back to Windows 7, you gave it a honest shot and couldn't adapt to it, if this is the case for many the next OS or the OS after that may revert or change again and you could try out that, otherwise you'll just have to suck it because you are in a minority that needs to be forced to adapt.

I never had a problem with security on any of my two computers one of them using XP. I already ahve software to handle iso and other disk images. I'm probably just gonna skip this one and just wait for when a new windows comes out if the next one is worth it.
I hear so many people getting read to buy this but I can't find any reason to buy this. I'd expect to see apps like Netflix, Wikipedia, etc. You can also download traditional apps in the Windows Store too (you'll be linked to the download) -Sync everything: You can login to Windows using your Live account/hotmail/etc and your user settings will roam with you to each Windows 8 device. You can also have Skydrive integrate into Windows if you choose to -Crazy fast boot times with Hybrid Boot -Native USB 3.0 -Storage spaces allow you to combine hdds, which act as a "single" hdd -Hyper-V: Super fast virtualization -Native ISO, VHD, and IMG mounting -App notifications that show up on your screen/desktop (ie: "New mail from X", Alarms, Calendar alerts, Weather alerts, IM's) -Wireless connection speed significantly improved -Obvious touch-screen support + rewriting of touch handling API -Battery life is a lot better for laptops/tablets/etc -If you're a developer, WinRT -Overall faster everything -A bunch of other stuff that's not yet announced [editline]18th July 2012[/editline]
I don't find any of the reasons you posted actually very good reasons. And if you have a normal PC, you'll still get a touch based tablet interface.
I think I'll wait a few months until after it's released before I go about installing it, I'm definitely going to grab it at that price though.

How is that not a good reason to upgrade? "Oh no, I can manage fine with what I have, I don't want to have it better!" With that kind of attitude I would still have Windows 98, stick to the NES and stick with the first mobile phone that fit in my pocket.
next month I'm planning on getting a raspberry pi or one of the pcs in that category, if I know I'll get a free copy of win 8 by then and try to see if I can run it somehow even though I would probably fail.
Now can I still get it for $40 if I'm building a new PC, or do I have to upgrade it on my current PC? I'm planning on saving up and building a new PC specifically for Windows 8, and I want to know whether or not that'll affect the $40 upgrade price.

If you can use your current license on the new PC then you can upgrade said license for your new pc. As long as your license isn't an OEM license (which would mean it's restricted to the hardware it was licensed on) But do a google on it to be 100% sure. Google is the source for any questions, and it's way faster and reliable.
For people still whining about Windows 8, ReactOS? :v:
I won't be buying it, Windows 7 is too good
Its so fast you have no idea, my boot time was 6 minutes on an older machine now its 20 sec
Native ISO support and $40? I'm sold :v:
Yeah, you can't run 8 on the pi, its nowhere near powerful enough, and it doesnt have a BIOS
And also because of the fact that MS is keeping the Windows 8 ARM version for OEMs only, and even then the Pi is too old to run Win8 if MS allowed you too.
