• Passively cooled completely silent build.

Hello. TL;DR I rarely turn off my computer and I've forced myself to bare with the awful buzzing noise from the broken gpu fan for over two years now, resulting in nearly always having a headache. Irregardless of if it may be not as efficient as an air cooled rig, I still want both the cpu, gpu and powersupply to be fanless, albeit alternatively I'd appreciate another build with fans but that will also be nearly completely silent. Budget is 900$, mainly what I need is a noise cancelling case, a fanless/very silent powersupply and passive coolers for an i3 2100/i5 2500k and 6850 (although I can drop down on the gpu a good bit, as I rarely even play games as it is). Thank you in advance.
you might find this interesting, CPU COOLER: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/nofan-cr-95c-icepipe-95w-fanless-cpu-cooler
Do not get an absolutely passive cooled PC, it will start overheating n stuff. But if you really want to, there should be a passive cooled HD6850. It costs a lot but yeah. For CPU cooling, just get a big heatsink and one quiet fan. A little quiet fans inside the case help too, of course. It costs 50$ more. But the 6770 with a nice cooler (Twin Frozr, quiet and food) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127590 And passive cooled: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131449 The price is same! [editline]24th December 2011[/editline] One of the best CPU Aircoolers (Maybe get this and take the fans off?) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608024
I am aware of the performance reduction and possible heat issues, but quality passive coolers are obviously made for a purpose, money isn't an issue, I can easily shell out 2000$ if it is needed, 900$ for a completely new build is solely what I believe would be enough. In this case, I already have a rig that is well sufficient enough for the tasks that require a lot of power, this will solely be a workstation used for what i generally all day which isn't more then digital painting, browsing and an occasional game of "osu!". Thank you for that 6850, I'll put that into consideration if I can find it in sweden, but as for the noctua coolers, as pretty as they may be and as well they do perform with the fans on, I'd still rather invest in something that is specifically made for passive cooling. Thank you for your effort nonetheless tho.
Oh I forgot to look that where are you from. I think Sweden should have those. If it doesn't, it should have a passive 6770. Atleast Estonia has multiple different 6770 in different shops. No 6850-s sadly. Could you maybe give me a link to some of the sweden sites? I do not have anything to do pmuch and I could aswell help you.
If the parts are not sold here then i have plenty of people who can buy them from the US for me, don't worry.
Water cooling sounds like a better option then 100% passive as you're going to get extreme heat build up rendering most of the headsinks redundant.
Water cooling sounds like a better option then 100% passive as you're going to get extreme heat build up rendering most of the headsinks redundant.
According to http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/reviews/video_cards/powercolor-hd-6850-1gb-scs3-passive-review/ It is not really that bad. I was suprised even. And if you add a 120mm fan to your case, to blow on it, it will be even better! And if the 120mm fan is quiet, you will not notice it. And if it disturbs you, turn it off!
Logic would say that having a case with a vent at the top would allow a passive system to operate better, Effectively creating a computer cooled via convection. Personally though I'd just go for very quiet fans, I have 7 fans in my PC and I can't hear it across my room because my Asus motherboard has very good fan speed management they only really spin up when gaming, My laptop is louder.
Don't forget. The bigger the case fan in most situations, its more quiet because it runs at a much lower rpm while pulling the same amount of air.
If you're going for it, I'd personally just get a 212+ for the CPU cooler and have a single 120mm fan blowing up out of the case; or maybe an H50 connected to a top vent with a nice silent typhoon on it.
I would get a big CPU heatsink what has fans, but connect those to a fan controller so you could turn them off when you want to. Well, I think it would work that way...
