I wonder how many of these are "unique" subscribers.
A corporation member of mine had like 12 alts.
I don't get what the big point of the article is - it seems to be trying to use EVE as an example that "subscription services are not dead" when there are other subscription services that have more subscribers. Plus, why is there an irrelevant quote to the side? Did somebody put that in as a template filler then forget to put something there? They go on to bash games for including "quests and orcs" saying that genre is tired and old when WoW follows that pretty accurately and has more subscribers. Does this site have no approval process for articles or something? :v:
EVE lives because it's not WoW. If EVE was like WoW everyone would play WoW in stead. This is where EVE succeeds and all other MMOs (bar WoW for obvious reasons) fail - why play a WoW clone when you can play WoW, think of how many action-bar-pve-focused-fantasy-quick-skilling-instant-rewards games have existed for 6 or so months, each time being called a "WoW killer" only to fade into obscurity?

Of course MMO developers seem to be so incompetent if you told them to make a game that isn't like WoW they'd just copy EVE in stead and fail for all the same reasons.
I tried to play EVE once... got over wellmed and quit :/

And it is this principle that is the reason why CoD-killers have always failed and probably will continue to do so. And why Halo fans lambasted Halo 4's changes to the formula, but that's a different factor of sorts.
