I remember when HL2 stuttered really bad when new sounds played for the first time, it's terrible. So I kind of have respect for these guys to go to lengths to avoid similar situations for lower spec people. But it's one of those things that should be optional. Sort of like way back when you could choose to install the videos, or leave them to be read from the disc to save HDD space. I think Red Alert did that
