What's with that neighbourhood screen?
Did they seriously remove free lot allocations?

The last one I played is Sims 2 though, where you can make completely custom neighbourhoods using SimCity 4.

Yeah, they did. Custom neighborhoods are gone, for... Optimization purposes, apparently.
I don't see any major reason to upgrade to Sims 4, honestly. I guess if you're really into the sim interaction features, it could make sense, but all the building and customization is so much better in 3.

Do you guys just pull this stuff out of your ass? Custom neighborhoods are still possible and the current worlds can be made bigger. The map screen is just a selection screen for different .world files and the two secret worlds don't even use the map screen.

I'm honestly not sure I should trust your zealous attitude toward the game, considering you seem to like it enough to use it as your avatar. I think I might herald a guess and say you've got a hint of bias.
EDIT: I'm sorry? Am I wrong in assuming that, because you like the game, you might try to portray it more favorably than someone who doesn't particularly like it? Or are you just upset I've called you out?

I was dead set on not buying this game actually but I'm attracted to trainwrecks like Duke Nukem Forever and other such universally panned games.
Much to my disappointment this game isn't a trainwreck. But as I was saying custom worlds are still possible. At this point in time a mod would need to be created to access them in game.

The map screen you see in game is pretty much an image and the two secret lots are accessed else where. The map screen can be expanded ala The Sims Unleashed.
Of course reverse engineering of these files will have to happen but it seems more likely there will be a world editor release ala The Sims 3.
Also the game looks to be very moddable. Most of the simulation stuff is coded in Python.

Well, at least you backed yourself up, although I'm not really buying that first bit. Still, I learned something, so that's reasonable.

To elaborate on the seeking out of crap games I do it so I can see what they did wrong mechanic wise so I can discuss them at a local game discussion meet up. Most of the people who attend are game industry folks. (Microsoft Game Studios, Hidden Path, some guy claimed he use to work at Black Isle not sure if I believe him though)
This is pretty much how i play the sims. Doesn't seem fun if your not senselessly torturing somebody.
