• Picking a Wifi card.

Hello, Face punch. I am currently building a PC in other thread. I need some help. I currently have this [url=http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122351]card[/url]. It is very good card picks up a lot of networks(21-ish) on my block. I get good internet on my desktop. I have come here to ask if anyone knows of a better wifi card. I want overkill sometime that picks up signal and doesn't drop it if bump your pc. I want to get something for my new medium build gaming pc. But I know nothing about wifi cards. Any help please. I said please. All I ask is that it supports Win7.

Drivers are simple, just install and use Windows 7's wireless connection manager. It supports both x86 and x64 variants of W7. The only thing I wish it had was 5.0GHz frequency support, but other than that it's great.
Don't go Linksys if you have x64 unless you want all of god damn hell to shit on your computer....

I'm kinda in the same boat, I'm moving and I'm going to be switching from a line from my router to being wireless. What kind of decrease in speed would I receive with an average pci network card compared to a direct line?

But for transfers over LAN, speeds over 802.11g would probably be 1/2 to 2/3 what you'd get over 100mb/s ethernet. If you use 802.11n it should be about the same as 100mb/s ethernet, probably a little faster. But it's going to be much slower than gigabit ethernet. In the US you could still run 802.11b and your internet connection won't even max that out.[/QUOTE]To be exact, 802.11g tops out at 54Mbits/s, and 802.11n tops out at 300Mb/s. 802.11b maxes at 11Mb/s, which is slow when you're file sharing over your network. And many high speed connections will max out. I have a cable ISP, and I usually have a download speed around 14Mb/s.
