• Best speaker/sound card combo for playing lossless audio

I have a lot of FLAC files but they sound like shit. I don't know if it's my motherboard or my speakers. I have JBL spot speakers (http://www.amazon.com/JBL-Spot-2-1-Speaker-System/dp/B000M39268) got them for $40 at best buy awhile ago, that price is way the fuck off. I use my mb's integrated sound card. I have a MSI h55m-e23 which I believe has a Realtek ALC887 on it. So I don't know if both are bad, or if it's just my speakers or just my motherboard. FLAC songs on my computer sound like 192Kb/s songs on my zuneHD... So recommend a sound card and/or new speakers for less than $150 combined, or less than $80 if I should only change one.

Those speakers don't have proficient tweeters to play low end frequency most likely 500hz and below, you can test this by generating a sine tone in Audacity. It also might be your ears (I can't help you with that). Some ears are tuned to hear things and you just might not notice it at all.
^ No I know it's either my card or my speakers (or both) because it sounds slightly static-y when I play any sound files, from 320Kb/s MP3 to FLAC to WAV. So can you recommend a good card that fits in a PCI slot? I'd buy a shelby gt 500 (800+ HP FTW!) before I'd waste 55 Gs on 2 speakers.
Get a xonar sound card, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132020&cm_re=xonar-_-29-132-020-_-Product is the lowest budget one, there are others at $40-$200+, as for the speakers, it depends on your budget. There's a great 2.1 set for $150. If you're unsure if it's your speakers or motherboard, then try your Zune with your desktops speakers, and your zune headphones with your desktops audio.
