I've been debating a 7870 over a 560Ti for a while now, and it's just coming down to how it affects the motherboard. I read that PCIe 3.0 cards can plug into PCIe 2.0 slots, but I'm just wondering how much this would hinder it if at all. Or if getting a Mobo with PCIe 3.0 is even worth it, actually. The main problem is I can't find a Mobo that doesn't have a shitload of "bonus" 4x and/or 8x PCIe 2.0 x16 slots meager PCI slots. I don't even really use PCI slots in my current computer, but I'd like to at least have one or two to use if I need it. I'm going to get an i5, so I'm using LGA 1155, which has also limited my search. I've tried looking for a LGA 1366 board, but they're all ridiculously expensive and come with way more than what I want to use. So I think I'd rather stick with a 560Ti and an i5 if it's not worth it to use PCIe 3.0. [editline]11th April 2012[/editline] Oh, and my 600W power supply can power an i5 and 7870, right? I knew it was a bit overkill for my current build, but it was such a good deal on it I figured I could use it for the next build. [editline]11th April 2012[/editline] Sunuvabitch, the 7970/7950s are out now... And they're ridiculously priced... I don't think that's worth the extra $100, but I might consider waiting for the 680...
A good 600W should be enough, if you could post the model it would be easy to confirm though. As for PCI-E 3.0, it's just marketing. No graphics card really takes advantage of it. You'll only see loss of performance with whatever dual GPU cards come from Nvidia and AMD.
1366 is really old and bad now. 1155 is fine. Z77 is the new chipset for it. PCIe 3.0 is just that it is faster than before. Not many cards lost performance from going X16 to X8 (In PCIe 2.0) and 3.0 is twice as fast as PCIe 2.0 so yeah.

And thanks, I figured it was just marketing, but I had to confirm it. I read somewhere that PCIe 2.0 isn't even fully utilized, so I'm just gonna go with a 7870 and pick a Mobo I like. I'll probably even wait a month and see how prices are.
