How do I do it without exploding all PC's within a 10km radius?
All settings are on low at the moment, it's choppy as hell and shooting is hard.
Any help?
What are your computer specs?
It runs with like 25 FPS on my Core 2 Quad with an overclocked GT220. But yeah, GTA IV is pretty damn unoptimized

It's a dell studio 540.
Not near the computer right now.

It's like trying to run 8 instances of crysis on a netbook.

If this is your computer, then you're fucked and it's not going to get any better.
I even run it with medium-high settings at 1280x1024
:v:
If you want to run GTA4 well you really need a quad core and at least a mid-range GPU with a decent amount of RAM.
It fluctuates between 20-30 fps with everything set to low on my AMD X2 and HD4650.
I like how subforums are at the bottom of forums now. Really stupid pointless change. What is this, YouTube?
Fucking Pentium Dual-Cores everywhere lately.
You're going to need a new computer to even have a chance of running that game well.
I used to try getting it to run well on a similar CPU and there's no way to make it run higher than 15 FPS.

This is irritating
Interesting. I thought Rockstar released a patch some point i time to make the game run better?

Also, the weird thing is that, on my quad core, the game only uses like up to 50% while the game is running. So in fact, you would think that the game only utilizes two cores at a time...

You can only patch a broken game so much.
I think they managed slight improvements for some systems, but if your computer couldn't run it in the first place it was never going to be able to.
uh
My shitbox laptop runs GTA IV at 1366x768, on medium - high settings at 40-60 FPS. I have a Mobility Radeon HD 5470, 2GB of DDR3 @ 532mhz and an i3 350M @ 2.27ghz. I don't get what the big fuss is about :v:
This game actually runs better than L4D2/OF:DR. Fuck, I even sometimes get a worse FPS in LoL, and I barely get above 60 in WoW.

Somehow, I really doubt that.

If you have nothing else running in the background, have no AA and such and refrain from zooming right in on explosions etc, it's amazing what you can squeeze out of it.
Run the game at 400x400 windowed mode. I hear that helps.

That's sacrificing gameplay elements for framerate. And for most gamers (myself included) that's not an option.
Medium/high on a laptop
i7 at 1.60ghz, a 5730 and 4gb ram
I run it at 1366x768, odd fluctuation in frames while driving is kind of annoying
how many cars do you guys set it to? and maybe leave water at low?
If you have the latest verson of GTA IV rockstar changes the shadow algorithm to be more optimized (they used the one from red dead redemption)
offtopic,
Also the sub forum change was unnecessary, last time i checked it worked fine the way it was, dont 'fix' what aint broke

It's just going to result in more incorrectly placed threads, and hence more bans.
GTA IV was badly coded for the PC port. I have a pretty nice computer that can run Crysis on medium/high, but GTA IV absolutely murders it.
Another person who doesn't know what the word "optimise" means :Dawkins102:
Shadows are shit in GTA IV unless they're set to Very High, so I just turn them off for a huge boost while the game still looks good.

lol, I had them at very high because they looked crap otherwise. I didn't know you could turn them off completely
I am forever fucked with my AMD Athlon X2.
It is so imbalanced, i have a 9800gt and 4GB of DDR3 ram and before i got my phenom II x4 i had an Athlon II x4 i got 15-20 FPS
Now i get 35+FPS everywhere.
also i used these settings in launch options.
-norestrictions -nomemrestrict -renderquality 4 -shadowdensity 14 -availablevidmem 1.0 -percentvidmem 1.0
I run it at 1440x900 at low-medium and it runs fine other than the fact that it crashes on startup 80% of the time. But at least its better than saints row 2!
Its funny for me it seems to run better on patch 3 with ENB.
I am forever fucked with my AMD Athlon X2.
Huh what.
I have an AMD Athlon II x2 250 at stock speeds (3Ghz), with some unknown brand of DDR3 1x2GB, my Old 8800GT, and I run at 1600x900, medium textures, medium reflections, medium water detail, 35 View Distance, about 40-50 Detail distance and 30 vehicle density, and the game runs fine most of the time.
What am I doing right?

Pretty sure I can run GTA 4 on this on medium settings, especially considering the GPU is fully overclocked.
[editline]13th January 2011[/editline]
yeah just check can you run it, i passed the recommended settings
[editline]13th January 2011[/editline]
apparently the recommended overclock for my cpu is 5.23ghz :v:
