I haven't played it myself, but chances are the user ratings are fairly accurate. If it turned out to be like RE5 then I'd pass it up. RE5 was mediocre.
It's nowhere near as bad as the reviews say. All the bad reviews are pissy resident evil fans that are mad because the series turned more towards action. I say it's a 7.
I heard it wasn't bad as a game, just as a Resident Evil game. The series is seen as a horror series, but it's evolved into a much more action orientated series, especially RE6. Don't play it if you're seeking a horror experience, but a good game experience? I don't see why not.
RE6 isn't a bad game but it's certainly not great. The issue with it is that Capcom tried to do far too much with RE6 in order to cater to a wide player base. It tries to be a jack of all trades but doesn't really manage to be anything more than adequate thanks to design choices so inconsistent it's surreal. There are moments in RE6 that took my breath away and had Capcom managed to spread more moments the equal of these scenarios it might well have reached the heights of RE4. But then almost five minutes after a glorious boss fight or a tense, well structured battle we're treated to so many QTEs my fingers ached or a segment in which you fight an invincible boss you damage with explosive barrels while enemies constantly spawn and rain on your parade with lead. Chris' campaign was surprisingly fun imo but it's still easily the weakest of the campaigns. Leon's had moments where I felt I was playing what RE2 would have been like if it had adopted the over-the-shoulder view of RE4, Ada's was fairly similar and by far the best imo because you were on your own for all of it bar the cross-over sequences. Jake's campaign had some interesting ideas and, in my opinion, the two characters boasted the best characterization and interaction (a real surprise considering it's a Capcom game) but suffered from some truly baffling design, even more so than the other campaigns. It's amazing at times and absolutely horrendous at others, and honestly I don't think there's really any other score that gives it justice other than a 7. Gunplay is solid, melee is clunky but generally functional, voice acting is better than I thought it'd be and a cut above the previous RE titles (still not great though). On the other hand the story is - as always - batfuck loopy, the 'health pill' system feels unnatural and takes a while to get used to, QTEs are back and even more obnoxious than ever and the cover system is inorganic and clunky. In the end it really depends which moments stick out the most for you when you play the game. I certainly enjoyed it but there was more than one segment of gameplay that left a sour taste in my mouth.
I like it. Simply put, not as good as 4. On par with 5, substantially worse in some areas, substantially better in some.
Good as a game. Bad as a resident evil game. The series is pretty much dead for me.
